Owner description: The Courtauld Gallery is one of the finest small museums in the world. Its collection stretches from the early Renaissance into the 20th century and is particularly renowned for the unrivalled collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. The Gallery also holds an outstanding collection of drawings and prints and fine example of sculpture and decorative arts.

“Great collection, poorly exhibited ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2014 via mobile

The collection exhibited in the gallery is really great. Also, I like that it is not too big, so you can enjoy it and not get too tired. Unfortunately many of the paintings are exhibited in such a way that they reflect light either from the windows opposite to them or wrongly put lights. Also, many of the oil paintings are mounted behind a glass, which makes things even worse. I even asked a safety guy to put the shades on the windows but it didn't happenen. Really pity for such a collection.

“A little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

There is so much to do around Somerset House these days and the Courtauld Gallery is very much part of that arty scene. There are permanent galleries on the lower floors and temporary exhibitions at the top, got to via a spiral staircase that is worth going to the gallery to see.

“An amazing collection of mediaeval altar pieces”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

Many visitors to the Courtauld Gallery will go to view the extensive collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings. What certainly took me by surprise was the fantastic collection of mediaeval altar pieces. The works are of unbelievable quality, with lots of gilding. The works are carefully displayed so that you can often see the backs of the pieces as well as the front. Another nice feature is that you can see the works very close up, so you can really see the detail of these very old works of art.

Allow plenty of time to really appreciate the collection. The captions are detailed and the variety of works is good, too.

Don't forget to admire the ceilings on the first and second floors. They are ornately decorated and further add to the experience.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

The museum is not too large, but has interesting art from different periods to enjoy.
The setting is beautiful. After lingering in the galleries, enjoying the delightful collection, we sat on the terrace in the sun by the Thames.
This is London at its finest!

“Wonderful gallery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014 via mobile

I love this gallery and I take the chance to go when I can. There is a charge for this gallery,£7 I think, although it is free for students. This gallery has a wonderful collection of paintings which is not overwhelming in scale. What I particularly love about this gallery is; where else can you be alone with a Renoir or Pissaro? There were others in the gallery but on many occasions I found myself alone and the shear joy of communing with work of such brilliance was immeasurable. The National is excellent as is the collection but you will get neck ache peering around the crowds. A short walk will take you to a haven of tranquility.
