“Very Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We booked this hotel for four nights because it was rated 5 star. It certainly was not. Upon arrival we were shown to a tiny room with a tiny "double" bed. We requested a change and were moved to a larger room in what appeared to be an annex to the main hotel and situated above the restaurant. We had to climb stairs to the room as there wasn't a lift available. The room was adequate but looked directly into the windows of rooms in the main building only about 25 mtrs. away. It was also an extremely dark room with the ambient light being dimmed by it's proximity to the main building. The switches /controls operating the lights and a/c were utterly confusing and
we failed to come to grips with them during our stay. The operation of security doors was also a nuisance and very awkward. The location was very good, on the Thames but we didn't have any view of it from our room which was a pity. We couldn't recommend it and will not return ourselves

Room Tip: Don't accept a room in the annex.

We have visited Rafayel twice this year - first time for a weekend away for just the two of us and have just returned with our 6 year old for a long weekend to see the sites. During the first visit we ate in the hotel restaurant which was perfect for the two of us just unwinding and getting away from it all. The hotel is a little way from the theatre district but not too far and we thoroughly enjoyed a matinee performance of Warhorse. We returned last weekend with our young daughter to see the Lion King, the Crown Jewels and finally the WW1 exhibition at the Imperial War Museum - this time we had a Nile suite, cheaper than many ordinary rooms in the typical chains. This meant that we had a proper dining table and chairs, settees and an enormous bathroom complete with jacuzzi! A great base for visiting London attractions and nice to come back and relax in comfort. Thank you, we will be back! JK

My honest opinion; book this hotel, it's very pleasant, but make sure to tell them that the touch controls are a complete waste of time and the bathroom needs a makeup mirror for shaving and makeup activities.

Here's some more reading:

I don't like to place negative reviews. In these days of mass competition and nasty chain hotels, it's good to find one that's independent.
The hotel is well located for easy access to Clapham.
There's a free shuttle too which is really useful. 10/10

Inside the room is very clean and contains some good fixtures.
Unfortunately someone in management was sold some touch-fitting light and air conditioner controls. They are obviously a problem because while I was there, the installer actually came into our room to test them. A very unnecessary light fitting over the bed that illuminates blue or 'meat counter' white light. After a few minutes the light turns itself off for no obvious reason.
The lighting was the biggest problem with the room.

The shower is the crowning glory of the room, never have I experienced a hotel shower that was as good! Hot, lots of pressure and all the settings you would ever need. 10/10 for that.

Free Wifi 10/10

The staff are very accommodating and welcoming. As always, the front of house people *are* the hotel, someone made some good decisions
when hiring them. 10/10

This hotel is quirky and has some good ideas. For the view of The Thames it's worth staying alone.

Not great, not terrible. Not particularly worthy of the "five star" rating it has, but have nothing bad to say about it. Amenities in shower/bathroom not great, had to call for an iron. Room very small and cramped for two people. "View" overlooking a parking lot and industrial zone. Breakfast not great, but not bad. Far from everything.

I love taking pictures of the river, and often walk along it enjoying many findings. I have from time to time stopped at, The Rafayel Banyan restaurant, for a Tea or coffee. On rare occasions, I have eaten a meal always sitting outside on the tables along the river. The food is good and the service friendly and adequate. I recommend this place for the above reasons. It is also a nice place to pass by and while away a few minutes! Hope you will try it too!

Stayed for one night as part of a quick stop over.

Staff, cleanliness and location all excellent. Onsite parking for £15 seemed good value too.

Although we didn't eat at the restaurant, it seemed to be a good price and looked to a high standard.

The best things about the hotel were definitely the very reasonable price ( for London ) and hands down, the best shower I have ever seen.

Worth staying just for the very powerful shower.

This is a gem of a hotel. Incredibly reasonable. Beautiful rooms, overlooking the Thames. Really friendly, helpful staff who went out of their way to help me. Nr battersea park, Chelsea, kings road. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Worth getting a room facing the Thames. Huge rooms, amazing views
