My boyfriend and I had booked this hotel for our anniversary, and were really excited to get there as the reviews were pretty good and we loved the modern look and feel to it. As soon as we got to the reception to check in, the problems started.
The gentleman at the front desk informed us that due to a 'system error' they had overbooked and that they were going to offer us an alternative at their 'sister hotel' down the road, which was a Best Western and operated under the same management. We agreed to check out the rooms, but were not impressed. The decor was much more old fashioned and the rooms were TINY. After being shown 3 rooms we went back to the reception to reluctantly accept one of them. We made our feelings very clear that this was not the room we had paid for and none of the amenities were available to us. Then, out of nowhere, they happened to have a 'cancelation' so we were finally given the room we had paid for, after an hour of running around like headless chickens. We got the impression that this was common practice since they operate under the same management, as we saw couple after couple being escorted to the sister hotel whilst we were looking at rooms, one couple leaving just before we got our newly 'cancelled' room. Very, very suspicious.
Back to square one with unnecessary fuss, we noticed that the cooler system in our room was extremely loud - we thought we could sleep through it so ignored it and went out to dinner. However it was so loud that we couldn't sleep at all! We woke up exhausted the next morning and told reception, however nothing was done, so our second night was spent in the same turmoil. Having had enough around midnight, we went down to reception and they switched us to another room. The room however had a faulty thermostat or something of that nature, and we BOILED to death for the whole night! The joke was that every time we tried to open the window, the cooler would start blowing out hot air, and we had no way of turning the fan off without boiling!
All in all, it was the hotel from hell. In the spirit of giving a fair review however, I have to say the breakfast was very nice: hence the earning of this 1* rating.
Overall, the staff, although polite, were very impersonal and did not offer us any compensation for our experience. Hence, we will not be returning to this hotel any time soon!
