“Wonderful boutique hotel in East London”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

I stayed 3 nights at the Town Hall Hotel recently. The staff were extremely helpful and assisted me in making the most of exploring the area - particularly if you are there over the weekend like I was - Columbia Road (Sunday) and Broadway Markets (Saturday) in walking distance. Loved the furnishings - the quirky touches like a rubber duck for the bath - we had a one bedroom apartment on the Lower Ground Floor - and the kitchen was equipped with everything needed. And I could do some washing! Managed to get a table at The Corner Room restaurant which was fantastic - highly recommend it. Loved the lounge area outside the restaurant as well as the bar - fabulous cocktails! Swimming pool was great to re-energise after long days working. A wonderful stay in a great area of London - will definitely be back!

I stayed at the Town Hall in a one bedroomed apartment on the Lower Ground floor. It was comfortably and stylishly furnished - lovely lamp - and the kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could want, including an excellent coffee machine. The bathroom was extremely luxurious and I liked the glass wall between it and the bedroom with a curtain to draw for modesty. The toiletries, towels and bathrobes were high quality and the cute rubber duck was a nice touch. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. All good, in fact excellent so far.
Now for the reservations. Why spoil the ship for a haporth of tar? There were several vases but nothing to go in them and few if any pictures so the rooms looked bare and unfinished, not minimal. The colours were aiming at 70s chic but actually just looked dingy because of the shades chosen. The TVs were very small; the one in the bedroomwas no bigger than a monitor. I was told check -in was at 14.00 but though I had rung ahead and been told it would be ready before then, the room was not ready until 14.30. The receptionist was cold and distant and uncommunicative, perhaps a language problem.
The real problem was breakfast. In the file in the room it said breakfast was served until 10.30. I went to the breakfast room at 9.45 and was told it finished at 10.00. I waited for 10 mins for a waitress to take my order and was then told there was no decaff coffee. The ordinary coffee had run out and I was told it would not be refilled as it was now past 10.00. There was little left on the buffet in the way of cheese or meat, so at £15 it was an expensive fruit juice, cereal and croissant. I am told the cooked dishes are well worth the extra £4 but I didn't have time to wait.
So all in all a bit of a curate's egg. I would stay againif I got a good deal on the room but go to the City for breakfast or get up earlier.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your feedback on TripAdvisor on your recent stay at Town Hall Hotel & Apartments. It is great to know that you enjoyed you stay with us and that you found our apartment to be comfortable, stylish and very well equipped. I am glad to hear that you liked our bathrooms design, with the see through glass wall and that you appreciated the quality of our towels and toiletries, as well as our comfortable beds with quality linen and pillows. I am however mortified when I read of your delayed check-in. This should not have happened and it is correct the check-in time is at 2 pm. Regarding your experience at the Corner Room during breakfast, it is true that on weekdays the breakfast is served from 7 to 10 am. The information on the in-house folder have now been double checked as this information have already been updated some time ago and I wondered how we missed to updated the one placed in your apartment. Nevertheless, I am extremely disappointed with the unhelpful attitude from my colleagues there and I cannot agree more with you that they should have honoured the full breakfast in any case and even more when the mistake was from our side. I have asked both the FO and F&B manager to investigate the matters with immediately and to provide further training on customer service to those individuals who failed to handled this situation in a more professional way. Furthermore I have instructed our administrator to double check all the in-house folders to prevent this kind of incident from happening again. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused in this occasion. I can assure you that this is far from what we intend to offer our guests with and I hope this isolated incident will not deter you from visiting us again in the future. I will share your feedback with all the teams here in a constructive way and work towards the improvements those concerned areas. Should you decide to return to the THH please do not forget to notify me of your reservation so I can make some amendments to improve your experience in future stays. Thanks so much for taking the time to share these details with me and in the meantime should you require any further assistance from the THH please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Many thanks and kind regards to you and your family. Sandro Desole

This is a wonderful hotel which retains much of its character and yet is also very contemporary. There are some lovely, quirky pieces of furniture and the apartment we stayed in was extremely spacious with a large bedroom, bathroom and lounge area, with a well disguised kitchen too! The experience of having a cocktail made in the room was fantastic, we learnt so much about making a martini! It was only disturbed by the turn down service offering us some beautiful macaroons! The staff were very polite and helpful both before and during our visit. The location is great for exploring East London with all its lovely eating places and shops. We loved the hotel and can't wait to go back.

My partner and I stayed at the Town hall for a romantic break! We had a wonderful stay, we stayed in an executive apartment, the apartment was of exceptional standards, we couldn't fault it. The daily treats were a very nice touch! The staff from concierge through to room service were extremely friendly and attentive. The facilities at the hotel are also of high standards. You cannot fault this hotel and if you are looking for somewhere different to the normal accomodation options then this is the place to go. Unique characteristics and lovely staff, we shall return in the near future.

We were booked in for a two night stay for my son's wedding, an excelent choice with every facility you expect from a luxury hotel. We stayed in a large double ensuite room on the lower ground floor, expecting it to be a bit dark, but to the contrary, it was very light with lots of opening windows. Dressing gowns and slippers were provided and fresh milk and bottled water in the room fridge.
We had the £15 buffett breakfast which had huge unlimited choices and dined the one evening in their fixed price Corner Restaurant, the food was really good.
We didn't use the pool and gym facilities , but they looked very good. The service we experienced at all times was of a high and friendly stantard.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your feedback on TripAdvisor on your recent stay at Town Hall Hotel & Apartments. First and foremost congratulation for your Son's wedding. It is great to know that you thought the THH was an excellent choice and that you enjoyed your stay with us. I am glad to read that you liked our large apartment and although being on the lower ground floor, the light and air circulation, where just as good as it is in all the other apartments. Thank you for detailing what the THH has to offer to its guests all included in the rate and it is nice to know that you really loved our breakfast selection and the diner in the Cornier Room from our Starred Chef Nuno Mendes. It pleases me to see that all my colleagues provided you with their usual excellent service, yet friendly and welcoming at all times. I noticed from your previous reviews that you have passion for Museums and I wish to inform you that nearby the THH we have many galleries from new emerging artists, which you may be interested to visit. Thank you for your kind score/comments and for choosing the THH for your stay in London. Should you decide to return to stay with us, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I will be more than happy to assist you with any request you may have. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Many thanks and kind regards to you and your family. Sandro Desole
