Visited one Saturday lunch time to take advantage of a reasonably priced three course lunch, set price around £20 or £25 including dessert.
The restaurant is hidden above a pub and entered via a security dorr - hav to buzz and they let you in. On entering there was a decidely unpleasant smell which was a little off-putting. I trip to the gents 10 mins later revealed that the source of the unpleasant smell was vomit in the toilet. Bearing in mind this was only 1230, my guess is that it had been there overnight, thus calling into question their standard of toilet/bathroom hygiene.
I nearly left then but persevered. Restaurant is pleasant, airy and informal. Staff were friendly and efficient. It was disappointing that at 1230 two items were not available - surely it's not that hard to source a red cabbage?
I had sweet parsnip soup - really nice, very creamy but ever so rich, I couldn't manage a bowlful due to the richness. Partner had a game terrine which was very nice, really meaty with a good depth of flavour.
Mains - I had pheasant, partner had steak - both were okay, not great, just average.
Wine selection was reasonable, average prices. Couldn't manage a dessert as the food was too rich for me.
Pleased I tried it but wouldn't go back.
