I've been for dinner at Bocca di Lupo once a year since it opened, and I always look forward to it.
Let's do the food first. The thing I look forward to most is probably the cheapest thing on the menu: big fat green olives, stuffed with minced veal and pork, coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried. They're amazing, they taste of Italy, and if you order a couple of those while you sip a negroni and read the rest of the menu, you'll be very happy.
Most of the dishes come in small and large, so you can do starter/main course if you want, or do what we do and order a selection of dishes and share (I'd recommend that as you get to try more).
Last night we had homemade fennel salame with deep-fried bread; prawns and squid with polenta; baked pasta with red prawns and courgette (wonderfully rich and creamy); the most amazing wild boar and spicy sausages I've ever tasted; and some cannellini beans with tomato and sage. For dessert: 'fragola' grape granita, and an ice cream 'opera' cake.
And that's just a tiny fraction of what's on the menu.
The atmosphere is laid back, but it's always full so book well ahead if you want a table in the back (you can also sit at the bar). The staff are extremely friendly and professional.
It's not cheap so for us it's a treat. But you could really spend as much or a little as you like. I can't wait till I go back next year.
