We picked these apartments specifically so that we would be able to stay in the apartments during the day as we were working and needed access to the Internet. We stayed at 190 Bermondsey Street first and then moved to Tower Bridge road.
We arrived on the Saturday, apartment nice, well furnished (very IKEA like), bed very comfy, kitchen well equipped. Bathroom clean and new, shower adequate pressure, however the light kept going off so you had to open the shower door and wave your arm around. Poor lighting to put makeup on or do your hair. Bathroom started to smell after 2 days and then took them another 2 days to fix it. Apartment was very stuffy no air con and no air flow unless you opened your front door. No fan.
The real problems arose when we were woken up by this crazy banging and drilling sound on the Tuesday, it was like someone was outside our room with a jackhammer. When we went down to speak to reception the noise was even worse, the poor guy on reception could hardly hear us speak. (I am sure the sound level was above health and safety levels of working). He explained that they were working in the basement and he didnt know when they would be finished.
The noise was incredible, there was absolutley no way that we could do email or business calls at all. I notice the webstie now says 'minor work' dont you believe it!! The sound reverberates right thru the building, something to do with the steel structure which seems to magnify the sound. We had to leave the apartment and try and find internet cafes and do work from there!! Crazy!
It took them 3 days to relocate us to London Bridge (probably cause everyone else was complaining), The new apartment was bigger and thankfully quiet, road noise if you had all the windows open but nothing compared to the dreadful banging at Bermondsey Street. Again apartment well furnished, and clean, but again poor lighting in bathroom. Beds not as comfy as Bermondsey Street but Showers had more water pressure. Also you have to take out your own rubbish unless you stalk a cleaner as they dont change towels or clear rubbish on a daily or regular basis.
OK value at 79 a night as you can prepare the majority of your meals reasonably easy, however if you are intending to work or hang out in the apartments during the day or even sleep in past 8am then you need to check that there is NO construction work going on as it will drive you nuts!! Also if you are not used to city noises, sirens buses, cars etc you will find it noisy during the day and at night, especially if you like to have the window open.
Would not recommend them at the moment until they have finished all the construction work as it really ruins your stay!
