“Fantastic hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

This was a clean, warm and friendly hostel.
Free wifi was great and extremely fast.
Linen was provided free and you could hire towels.
Didn't have the provided breakfast of cereals and toast (we were up to early).
Staff were very helpful.
Rooms and amenities were warm and comfortable.
Had a bit of a problem with inconsiderate patrons making a lot of noise while others slept but thats part of what you get when in a 12-bed dorm.
Location couldn't be better.

First of all, the hostel is far from the metro stop. what kind of road description says 200m before the END of the road??!!! instead of saying 1km after the traffic light, they wrote 200m before the end of the road!! this is just a very bad way to trick people. as I had little time to book the hostel and as I saw the text metro and 200m as a normal person I assumed it was 200 m after the traffic light. BUT NO!! it is 200 m before the end of the road which is nearly 1 km! after!!! that is real b.s!

internet comes and goes and even when it is working it does not work with i-phone!

addition to that, the bathrooms are awful, not even the smallest rack that you can put your soap or toilet bag on, all the material in the lobby is old and used up. it is very easy to say that the owners just built the hostel and went away. not even a single attention to detail.

for the breakfast there are only 2 toasters, and the slowest ones in the world, for a hostel of probably more than 100 people. this means you have to wait at least 10 min. to get your bread toasted!

before this hostel I stayed at Palmers Lodge - Swiss Cottage but I had to leave after 3 days because they were fully booked. it is just an awesome hostel. you really feel you are treated nicely whereas the astor makes you feel worthless. DO NOT STAY HERE!

after my first night I cancelled the rest of my reservation and moved to meininger which is just 100m from the metro stop. cheaper, really decent and great value.

Room Tip: just dont stay here, it is the best way to choose a good room!

I stayed 4 out of 5 london-visits at one of the astor hostels (between may 2009 and sept 2012)! the rooms are simple but clean, the people are very helpful and nice, given that I don't like group showers I took an ensuite room and it wasn't much more expensive than the others... it's quiet at night and the breakfast is also good! ;) awesome location to explore the city!

i will surely come back!

Located a few blocks away from the V&A Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Hyde Park and the South Kensingston Underground Station, this hostel provides a very nice atmosphere.
One of the great surprises I got once I arrived was the comfortable bed. And after a good night sleep, nothing is better than a free breakfast.
If you want to sleep in London for less than 25 Sterling per night, then this is a great option. Just be aware that you'll be sharing the bedroom.

Room Tip: Climbing all the way to the third floor is quite an accomplishment, so if you can't (or don'...

I visited London the beginning of this month and I stayed in the Astor Hyde Park with a friend of mine for a week...Given I've never stayed at a hostel before we felt safer getting a private room (double bed) with ensuite washroom. They had a room for us to store our luggage before we had to check in which was nice, the rooms were well kept, someone came to clean them everyday. Breakfast was served everyday at certain hours which included toast with butter, nutella, jams, cereal, milk etc. Kitchens and lounge area were all kept clean. You can put your food in one bag and label it to leave in the fridge. Staff was very friendly, helped with any questions you had. Best thing about this hostel was the location. In a beautiful posh area of London, less than 10 minute walk from 2 tube stops, lots of great places to see around the area itself. The price was well worth what we got, it's no 5 star hotel but then again who stays in their room when they are in London...I would recommend this to any traveler on a budget but looking for a comfortable safe place to stay!

Excellent location, friendly staff, amazing building, ensuite dorms, comfy beds, good kitchen, free wifi/movies/printing, great atmosphere and a better than average hostel breakfast. Should be rated much higher. Backpackers, stay here.

Great location - only a 15 minute walk from 2 tube stations. Near Hyde Park, Kensington gardens, the Science, Natural History and Victoria & Alberta museums as well as a large variety of shops, restaurants and pubs.

The hostel itself was large and spacious with 2 common rooms, which allowed us to choose between partying or having a quieter movie night. The kitchen was a good size and kept clean except for guests leaving their dishes unwashed, but that isn't the fault of the hostel. The floors were a bit sticky for a couple days after one particularly big party, but other than that I had no complaints about the cleanliness - the rooms and bathrooms were kept clean.

The 'lockers' under the beds were just metal cage drawers that could be locked in place which only works well for larger items, but secure safes were available in the office for very low price to keep really valuable items.

The hostel had free wifi, but we didn't get a signal in our room on the bottom floor - we had to go to the common rooms for internet. Breakfast was free and unlike some other hostels I've stayed at, they let you take as much as you want. The bed was comfortable although the room was fairly cold at times.

Altogether had a great stay; it's a great hostel to meet people and just hang out.
