“Decent value for money, clean and comfortable in central London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

I stayed here during a one-night trip to London and was a bit confused by having to pick up the key at 274 West End Lane and walk back up. I hadn't realised there were different numbered suites.

It wasn't a major problem although the offices weren't that clearly marked so I did wonder if I'd found the right place. Once entering though the staff were friendly enough and I didn't have any problems.

I didn't use any of the facilities apart from the bathroom and the bedroom. I found the room to be completely clean and the bed was great. The bathroom was small but again I found it clean and I appreciated the towels (for some reason I wasn't sure whether the place would have them). And the free wifi is always a bonus.

For the location and the price I thought it was perfectly decent for a solo traveller looking to stay somewhere relatively central (near to where I wanted to be anyway). I'd certainly check out their prices and consider staying there again.

It is not a proper hotel: you collect the key at 274 West End Road and then you have your own way in and out the room/flat. There's no reception, no staff, only 10 rooms. Rooms are nice, wide, bright and the kitchen facilities essential but useful: kettle, toaster, a couple of pans, crockery and cutlery. Everything clean and a wonderful high pressure shower (not easy to find in pretty cheap hotels in London!). Not luxury but definitely good!

It's just pretty annoying not having staff to ask questions if you need and to collect the key somewhere else.

The service was terible. There was a misunderstanding about the payment and the receptionist agreed not to deduct the first night and once we checked out they withdraw the money from our account and they are not returning them now, even though we email them and called them several times.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a night in February as we went to Camden for a night out. Good location, tubes and buses within a short walking distance. You have to walk past the block you are staying in and collect keys from a letting office place, bit random! Easy to find and check in smooth. The rooms are nice and clean, not too big but has everything you need. Ideal for us as we were only sleeping here. For £56 in London I have no complaints. I would stay here again. we had a great night in Camden, so much to do!
If you want cheap and cheerful and just a place to lay your head, I would def recommend 198 Suites. Hope this helps!

Room Tip: None of the rooms are smoking, side rooms are quieter as not on main road.

Having booked a 3 night last minute trip to London and the 198 Suites, we weren't really sure what to expect.

In order to check in you have to walk past the entrance to 198 (which is just a doorway next to a shop) and up to 274 West End Lane in the building mark "London Lets." Here we were greeted warmly by the receptionist who explained how to get into the building and gave us the telephone no. of the reception for any issues you have.

We were situated in Room 10 which is up 4 flights of stairs and at the top of the building (however, these suites are not appropriate for those who struggle to walk as there is no lift.)

There were several issues that we had to contact reception about: The 1st being a lack of pillows in which there was only 1 per person and the 2nd being a broken window that had a gap at the top which was letting the cold air through the room. However, one call to the reception and both these issues were dealt with in an efficient and effective manner.

The only real downside to staying here is the lack of crockery which, whilst you have several small plates and bowls, lacks large dinner plate and also a large pan suitable for cooking for more than 1 person. There was also a minor issue of hot water which when in the shower was lukewarm at best.

Overall, I would recommend staying at 198 suites as they are comfortable, close to bars, restaurants, shops and within 5/10 mins walk of West Hampstead underground station which has a direct link to central London.
