“Second but not last stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Once again at City Stay Hotel, now with my sons 17 & 20 yrs in a tripple room. We wanted deasent priced hotel with good sleeping standard and with easy access to public trp.

City stay hotel had kept the standard since my last visit some 3 years ago, meaning clean room, good beds, clean and functioning bathroom. Of course, the rooms are as small as before, no extra space but we really just needed our room for sleeping and showers.

Breakfast selfservice system still as practical as before! Hint, buy your fresh croissants and champagne in mini bottles for breakfast from the shop across the street!

Room Tip: We took basement trippel room, very quiet as it faces to the back of the hotel and windows could be...

We stayed at this hotel for five days over the New Year.
The location is great - there is a DLR station (Bow Church) right next to the hotel and it goes straight to Canary Wharf.
If you want to use the underground it is about a 3 minute walk to Bow Station (where you can hop on the District or H&C line), or if you continue and walk another 3 minutes you will get to Mile End Station where you can board the above mentioned lines plus the Central Line. It is, on average, a 15min ride to the city centre.
The neighbourhood offers a Tesco express (between Bow Station and Mile End Station) as well as a Tesco Superstore (about a 10 minute walk). There is a great pub called the Little Driver right across the street where you can grab a beer at the end of a busy day.
For good coffee in the morning go to Costa Coffee which is by Mile End Station. There is also a Nando's and a great value for money pub called the Half Moon all within a 15min walk from the hotel with meal deals plus drink starting at 6 pounds per person!
The staff were very friendly and helped us with all our questions.
The room was small (we stayed in 105), but we really only slept and showered there. The room was equipped with a TV, we got clean towels every morning with the cleaning service and basic toiletries were provided.
The hotel says breakfast excluded, which is actually not true. There is a kitchen downstairs and it is always full of goodies - cereals, milk, tea, coffee, toast, bread, jams, spreads, ham, cheese, fresh fruit. It is self service and you must clean up after yourself, but there really is no need to grab breakfast anywhere else.
All in all, it is good value for money. If you are looking to save a few pounds on lodging, this is the place to stay.

Upon arriving we struggled to get in as the owner was in another part of the hotel and had left the desk unoccupied. We had asked for a room at the back on recommendations from trip advisor reviews. Unfortunately this was all the way through the hotel, out the back and above the bank building next door. My partner carrying a flight bag sized case found this a little difficult to carry up the metal staircase so be aware of that. No lift.

We were at the end of a corridor which had around 4 rooms, our own kitchenette and a shared bathroom. We always found the bathroom clean, however our room backed onto the shower so if we had had noisey neighbours we might have been a little annoyed. Luckily we never saw anyone. Our room (3a) could have been described as the 'box' room! Very small even having to crawl into bed as it was against the wall, but we weren't that bothered as we were only there to sleep. The heating was lovely and warm and could be controlled. The kitchenette was fully equipped but breakfast was provided in the main part of the building in a converted cellar. Help yourself to toast, eggs, cereal, crisps and fruit with satellite tv and sofa.

Overall this b&b was fab for the price (I think £279 for 3 nights). A 5 minute walk from Bow Road tube station which was a direct route from St Pancras. As within zone 2 pretty good on travel prices too. Would possibly use again.

Room Tip: At the back maybe better, however room 3a would probably not be accepted by all. Ground floor may be...

small and well located if your business is in the east of london. rooms are small, but clean and its still reasonable value for money. The tube and DLR are next to it so it serves for both lines. Being on the main road, the buses are easy to get as well. They could however be more thoughtful on furniture in rooms when permitting, to add to the comfort. They also should be more attentive in replacing toiletries as required.

We stayed there for 3 nights in September 2011. People at the reception were very polite and helpful. Our double bed room on the 1st floor was clean and large enough together with shower/toilette. We slept and rested well in the room and for that purpose we didn't need much more. In the basement we could use small kitchen and breakfast room with TV. Fridge in the kitchen was full of basic food (eggs, bread, butter, cornflakes, milk, some fruits etc.), so we could prepare breakfast by our wish (charge for breakfast was incl. in room price). Not far from the hotel are situated BUS, DLR and U-tube stations. It took only 15-20 minutes by BUS to get to Oxford circus and the same time to Greenwich by DLR. U-tube Bow Road Station is 5 minutes walk from the hotel. We were really quite satisfied with position of the hotel and also breakfast selfservice. It is good value for the money.

Don't even deal with the money grubbing owner at this hotel. The place is dirty loud and the beds are uncomfterble. If you cancel early they will attempt to totally screw you with 2 nights penelty. They lied to me as well, never go there pay an extra 20 pounds and go to a decent place.

Room Tip: Don't bother to go there

+ Clean, breakfast options (kitchen), near to DLR, close to tube...
- Staff - saying hello can be so simple, try it more often, small room, on the kitchen door only info about closing time, nothing about opening...
