“Only for Snobs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Having previously been for afternoon Tea at The Ritz and really enjoyed it we took our husbands back for a drink in the Bar. The Person on the Entrance to the Bar looked us up and Down and told us the Bar was full and would be full all evening. We were made to feel really awful and went to a nearby Hotel who greeted us with open arms. I will never go back to The Ritz or recommend it to anyone. Awful experience. Should sack the person on the entrance to the Bar.

“Tea at the Ritz is indeed a grand affair”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

My wife and I were given a champagne tea gift voucher as a Christmas present last year and we left it until November to celebrate our anniversary and my wife's birthday. What an excellent choice this proved to be.

This was not our first visit to the Ritz but it was for tea. The tea room is a wonderful setting, very grand, very ornate, very tasteful, and very inviting. Yes it is formal and yes one has to dress smartly and men must wear jacket and tie. But this adds to the occasion and makes it special. I would not like to be having tea in such a setting surrounded by yobs with bare chests, shorts and trainers.

Our champagne arrives and it is gratefully received. The sandwiches are delicious and yet more were served when the first ones were running low. We have a tasty selection of pastries and cakes. Hmm. Freshly baked warm scones are then served and we tuck in with clotted cream and strawberry jam. We are unable to finish all that is before us and wished that we had bigger appetites but wait, a trolley arrives bearing carrot cake and lemon drizzle cake. We greedily agree to sample a small slice of lemon drizzle between us but even that defeats us.

A multitude of teas are on offer and my wife elects for the Moroccan Mint and I choose the Silver Needle, a white tea from Yin Zhen described as "soft, creamy and velvety on the tongue with notes of fresh, honeydew melon and a pleasantly sweet aftertaste". Not sure I would have picked all that out myself but it tasted good!

In the background a piano plays gently and for an hour and a half all the stresses of life were put on hold. Every one should try tea at the Ritz at least once.

“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

What a fantastic afternoon tea. Food is as expected and just beautiful in the palm, this is a wonderful and romantic experience, be sure to book in advance though as there are 5 sittings per day and this is very popular, jacket and tie required lads

“The most disappointing afternoon tea !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We were very kindly given a gift of afternoon tea at the Ritz ! It took us over a year to get a weekend reservation ! The choice was 11.30 am or 7.30pm ! They were the only available times ever available to us each time we tried to book ! We went eventually for 7.30 pm as we didn't fancy afternoon tea & champagne at 11.30 ! We live in Cheshire so had to make it a weekend stay .
I can only describe it as being herded into the Palm restaurant at 7.30 pm ! It was more like a theme park event ! Special it was not ! More disappointment when the food arrived ! Un image ate sandwiches , even worse cakes ( obviously not made by their pastry chef ) ! The scones were more like warm bread rolls ! Awful ! Not worth eating !
The whole experience was a massive let down ! It was embarrassingly bad ! We are having to lie to the people who gave us the gift ! It was over £100 for two ! A chavie rip off is the expression that comes to mind ! Not an experience we ever want to repeat !

“Afternoon tea at The Ritz.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

If you are looking to do something special for a birthday, anniversary etc I would really recommend Afternoon Tea at The Ritz. There are a large variety of different teas to choose from, or there is coffee if you prefer. Also, there is an option to add a glass of champagne and/or a celebration cake, but we just had the standard afternoon tea package. The finger sandwiches and the pots of tea were replenished which was something we were not expecting. We had a lovely selection of small cakes on the table and a trolley was brought around offering extra carrot cake and lemon cake. The scones were delicious and we were supplied with large pots of jam and cream to self fill them. The food was plentiful so our party left the venue completely full up. The service was excellent and the decor is very grand. A pianist played in the background which was a nice touch. A really enjoyable experience.
