“Delivers what it promises”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Stayed here on business for a week. Great location! Near the local tube, not far from Waterloo as well. A good 15 minute walk to London bridge. Was perfect for me as the office was literally three minutes walk around the corner.

This is a well priced (when I booked) and comfortable enough hotel in central London. We all know that prices are exorbitant so getting a good rate here was helpful. The room was average - clean, functional and internal looking. Comfortable bed, power for gadgets, a decent enough shower. Internet (I pre-purchased) was more than sufficient. Heating excellent, almost too good!

Beware that the hotel frequently has groups staying. When I was there, a couple of school groups from elsewhere in Europe. Utterly inconsiderate noisy groups they were too. Not much to be done and myself and several guests did approach the 'supervisory' staff and it did help. Sort of. Apart from that, nothing to complain about.

Staff were great. Very helpful when needed. Pointed me to a great laundrette about 20 minutes walk away.

If I needed a place for a few nights and didn't feel like breaking the bank, I'd probably stay here again. Travelodge Southwark delivers exactly what it promises. Nothing more and nothing less.

Room Tip: Try and get an outside looking room if you can.

To be fair the accommodation was clean and well located. Being only a 3 min walk from the Southwark tube stop was handy. I walked into the hotel and the ground floor lobby is a hallway with two small elevator doors with a sign explaining reception is on the first floor.

I took the lift to the first floor and went to the reception desk. To the left is a store for towels. The "lobby" area again looked like a hostel not a hotel. I paid my full bill in advance and then went to the room. I paid on average over a L120 a night for a very small room that smelled slightly of damp. The lights go on in the hallway as you walk. This is common again in youth hostels. Of course, some of the lights did not turn on as one passed by so the hallways were narrow and dark. I entered the room (smelled the damp) and surveyed I looked out on an air shaft. The flat screen tv was very small with 5 channels of viewing available. The bed was hard as a rock, though the linens were nice and the pillows were fine. This hostel (not hotel) is so Spartan, the rooms do not even have a phone to call down to the front desk. The shower was very small and the amenities were a hand soap dispenser and a shower gel dispenser. The staff throw your towels on the bed each day, so when you are getting out of the shower in the morning one thinks to oneself, oh I forgot to bring a towel into the bath room.

The Internet was free for 30 min. If you wanted more time you had to input a credit card number into the login screen and be charged L3 per day. The speed of the service was average.

There was chewing gum stuck to the carpet in the room and in the hallways. The carpet in the room had light staining most everywhere you looked. The room was generally very unappealing.

Being I paid $175 US a night for this hostel, I think I was incredibly ripped off. Will I stay here again? No, never again. Will I ever stay at a Travelodge again? Highly unlikely. I realize this is a budget chain, but still they could have designed a more comfortable room and instructed the cleaning staff to remove the chewing gum from the carpets.

Room Tip: Stay away unless you really are desperate

Hotel was very modern and was up dated . The staff were super friendly. The rooms were brilliant very clean with comfortable beds.
The breakfast was all you could eat and had a good selection of cooked and continental breakfast to chose from.

Very good value for money. Very impressed will stay again if in the area.

Ideal location in the centre of London with well looked after rooms and very helpful and friendly staff. Pity some of the other guests couldn't have been more considerate towards other guests as they made a lot of noise.

The room and bathroom were clean. The room was quiet so I slept well. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. I was on Business so what more do you want.

Negatives:
Channel 4 was missing from the TV and the Internet despite paying for it was too slow, about 2 meg per sec download.
Price it was £130 room only so very expensive but maybe as they say "that's London"

Excellent location 4 minutes from Tube and 15 from mainline Waterloo. Room spacious and clean, very quiet. Did not eat in cafe, but can heartily recommend Bankside cafe in Hatfields Just a 5 min walk (turn right out of hotel and Hatfields is on right after Tube station - excellent good value food lovely staff)
Would stay here again as great location for central London.
Non-existent Wifi for at least 24 hours out of our 4night stay.
