“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Our preferred location for London visits. The Lord Nelson Pub across the road is still great. Travelodge staff training needs to be improved, this is yet another visit when they took notice of the Do not disturb signs !

Great price for a very central location. Basic room without even toiletries supplied, but comfortable. Right next to two busy train lines so even on the 7th floor outside noise is a problem. Plumbing system also needs some maintenance!

Not comparable to US properties. For the money, we expected more. No drawers for clothes, no phone, no wash cloths, no bedside tables, only one very small soap (2 sq inches at most) Wi-fi was $17 per day, closet was small and difficult to use, only place one towel in the room, had to ask for more even though it was a double room. Would not return.

We are sorry to learn of your disappointment Glenn H. We can confirm we do not have any affiliation with the US Travelodge. We aim to provide our customers with all that’s needed for a great night’s sleep at a great price. As part of our brand standard we do not provide a phone in the room or toiletries; however our customers have the option to purchase toiletries from the vending machines at reception if they have forgotten any items.

Stayed here for the Olympics and the location was so good we booked again. Since our first visit the whole place has been refurbished. We arrived at 6.30pm and got a warm and friendly welcome. the rooms are a good size, tea/coffee making facilities and large king size beds. We stayed for three nights and all the staff were helpful and pleasant throughout.
The location is excellent - 200 yds from Southwark on the Jubilee line, 10 min. walk to Tate Modern and the River.
All in all it was excellent value for London and we wouldnt hesitate to stay again. We were even asked if we wanted to leave our luggage as we checked out - a first for Travelodge!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from the railway line.

It's our second time to stay in Travelodge Southwark. The first time was in 2011 for a couple of nights and the second one was just this month of November. We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days this time. It's my husband's birthday treat to me. Great location if you're visiting London. Just a 2 minute walk to the Tube. Kind and friendly staff. We had a comfortable stay there. The breakfast was good. Had our dinner in their bar during our last night and it was good too. We will surely stay in this hotel in the future.

We stayed for one night after seeing a show at the Old Vic, which is about 10 minutes walk towards Waterloo. The location was obviously handy for that, and for the South Bank etc. The nearest tube station is Southwark, but Waterloo is very close too for overground services.

The welcome at reception was warm if a little rehearsed. We were given a disabled room without being asked at check-in or requesting one. The only problems with this were having two single beds pushed together instead of a double and a low sink in the bathroom. Not major issues but it would have been nice to be asked if it could easily have been changed. The bathroom was more spacious than average because of this though.

Facilities were standard for a relatively new Travelodge. No bedside tables so limited storage space and no plug sockets near the bed, so mobile phones have to be charged on the desk. A mild inconvenience but one that could easily have been avoided with better planning. The room was clean and tidy with no obvious dust or marks.

The food wasn't great, and the drinks were expensive, even by London standards. I don't expect a lot from Travelodge food of course, but our meals weren't very warm and we saw some of the ingredients being microwaved through the kitchen window, making the prices a little steep. There was a terrible amount of noise in the bar area as well - the TV was on a very high volume (for seemingly no reason as no one was watching it) and another guest was playing on a games console on a very high volume. The bar staff could (I feel reasonably) have asked him to turn it down and/or turned the TV down to make it a more pleasant atmosphere for everyone.

Overall an average Travelodge with no really outstanding features except perhaps the location. We paid around £95 as that was the cheapest we could find in the area but I don't think it was worth it, maybe £70-80 would be more reasonable. My recommendation would be this is ok as long as it's not any more expensive than we paid, and if you can find somewhere south of the river for a similar price with less basic facilities, I'd try there instead.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are bigger (some with disabled facilities) and experience minimal tr...

Thank you for your feedback deanwilliams89. We are sorry to learn that you were disappointed with being allocated an accessible room. The same basic facilities are provided in all of our rooms, they will be set-up with the same brand standard with regards to fittings, furnishings and linen. Travelodge aim to provide everything our customers need for a good nights sleep. We’ll be sure to pass on your feedback regarding the bar café to our hotel management team.

Generally, I try and stay away from Travellodge's based on other hotels of this chain I have stayed in, but given its location and price for the dates I needed, I decided to give this one a try.

Location wise it is excellent. A ten minute walk from Waterloo and just a minute from Southwark tube station. London Eye, Tate etc about 15 minutes.

We arrived around 2:15pm, but staff would not let anyone check in until 2:30pm so we joined the queue of weary people waiting around the restaurant. This is the first hotel ever where I have had to do this when arriving so close to the check in time, but I guess rules are rules.

First room we were given was a corner room, at the rear of the hotel, but at the same level of the railway outside, and directly looking out on to the train tracks. The room was huge, but cold and dark. We asked to move and without any questions were given a much better room on the 4th floor, looking out onto the apartment blocks opposite. Lets be honest, your not staying here for the view!

The room was a decent size, with tea/coffee making facilities, a bath and a shower, flat screen tv on the wall, and an air con unit which also serves as a heater. The room was clean, functional and the bed and pillows were actually very comfortable. Just a word of warning, take some shower gel with you as all you get in the room in a tiny bar of soap.

The restaurant area is quite nice, and drinks reasonably priced. Service throughout was generally very good. Breakfast was included in our stay and comprised of the usual continental selections, and also sausage, egg, tomato, bacon and beans from the hot trays.

Yes, there were a few niggles, such as the noise of the plumbing when the hot tap was turned on, or the leaky shower head, but, its location, service and facilities - for the price, was very good. I would stay here again and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor (4,5,6,7th floor) so you are away from the main road and railway
