“Centenary wing very nice indeeed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

I've been to the Memorial wing a number of times. This is the wing facing Edgware Road (which isn't exactly a plus with it's traffic moving past at full speed all day and night long), is the one described as "tired" (and rightly so) in a number of reviews prior.

The Memorial wing is, by the way - closed on two floors now for refurbishement, which I believe are the two last ones to be upgraded.

However, my real reason for this review was staying at the Centenary wing for a couple of nights. It was absolutely great, with double glazed windows (= no sound from the street) and a nicely updated bathroom and main bedroom. Rooms are very spacious for London, and LED lightning and nicely done wood panelling made for a contemporary style.

TV with all the digital channels, ironing board and enough wardrobe space also counted on the plus side. Didn't try the breakfast this time, but it's been good at previous stays.

Just attended a re-union at the Victory Club, where we stayed on the 4th floor. The general look of the room was satisfactory and the bathroom clean and modern. The toilet had a button flush but needed TWO hands to flush it!!! there was an iron and ironing board available in the wardrobe. Ample tea and coffee. Our main problem was the windows, which were fastened shut.On the 4th floor!! A sign told you not to open them as air-con. was available. This was virtually impossible to use,[ no easy instructions], when we did eventually get it to come on, it made very little difference to the heat and humidity of the room. The windows were all steamed up.so we spent quite an uncomfortable and sleepless night. The extractor in the bathroom didnt appear to work either as the room filled with steam and you couldnt get dry!! or use the mirror. The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and good quality food.
We found the public areas a little tatty and in need of painting, the carpet on the 4th floor corridor very badly stained, looked like there was water damage, which didnt give a very good impression. Reception staff a little surly, but the porter on duty during our stay was friendly polite and extremely helpful. Would not be in a hurry to stay there again, despite its location

On arrival all looked good, lovely welcoming. However once we were given our key card to our room it all went down hill!

After finding our room on the 8th floor, we were disappointed to find the room was dated, grim and lacking love and attention. We could live with this until we ventured in to the bathroom which had no overhead shower (as requested) the paint on the chip board behind the bath and gone in to a state of disrepair with bear untreated chip board visibly, that was damp and going mouldy. After this we requested to move rooms. This opened up a whole new problem.

After requesting to move we were told that there were no rooms available, however after 30 seconds or so a room suddenly became available after requesting to speak with a manager who understood why we wanted to move as the upper 2 floors are yet to be refurbished . ( after speaking with a manager we moved rooms and headed out for dinner problem solved we thought, only to discover on arrival back to the hotel at 11.30 pm, there was now an upgrade fee, we had not upgraded but simply moved rooms. so at 11.30 pm we went back down to reception to find out where this extra charge had come from. The receptionist on duty was extremely rude. After not removing the charge the issue still remained in the morning where it was taken back up with the management who authorised it. finally this upgrade charge was removed.

The majority of the staff here are lovely especially housekeeping and the concierge staff nothing is to much trouble, however the reception staff are not only rude but continued to have a bad attitude throughout our stay even with other guests. They are lacking in knowledge and seam to lack training.

Besides the room issues there are further minor problems that are easily fixable. The sheets on the bed being the first there far to short for the beds leaving the mattress showing, this then results in you getting out of bed to pull them down leaving the pillows to cover the remainder at the top. Being in London you would expect to be able to use an iron, however on request of an iron I was told there were only 5 in the whole hotel and that they were all being used. I never did receive an iron after being told it would be 30 minuets.

On the plus side breakfast is lovely, good filling food with really good coffee and a great selection.

If your staying here I would request a refurbished room to avoid disappointment and only ask reception simple questions or better still stay in a Holiday Inn where you know exactly what your getting.

High standard of accommodation, friendly staff, great bar. I did not eat there so cannot comment on the food. Very pleasant first stay at the Victory Services Club in Marble Arch - great value for such a central location. I highly recommend it!

Just returned from a short break to London , once again stayed at the Victory Services Club, Perfect in every way , great location from a walk in the park , shopping in Oxford St., to looking at nice cars on Park Lane.
All the staff are friendly and speak English a massive plus for a London hotel these days. The parking near by undercover very cheap .
Was greeted with a smile and left with onre too highly recommend.

I joined the VSC two years ago as a family member on the strength of my father's army service. I travel to London often, either alone attending meetings or with my wife.

It is well located close to Marble Arch and offers a wide range of accommodation - single/double/twin and with ensuite or shared facilities. Many of the rooms have been recently refurbished and compare with a four star hotel, but at much better rates.

Breakfast in the basement dining room is an excellent buffet, and evening meals in the ground floor restaurant are also highly recommended.

I really would not wish to stay anywhere else in London!

I've been coming to the VSC now for over 20 years and seen much improvements to the place during this time.

Always constantly good no matter what time of year. The rooms have been updated to reflect the modern traveler and the bar area is good too.
