“Great local pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Have been to this pub a few times and never been disappointed. They have a vast beer menu and offer a great beer tasting option. The food is well prepared traditional pub food fare. There's a large beer garden out in the back. Inside the pub itself is quite narrow and sometimes crowded. Overall we enjoy coming here!

“What a treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We liked the look of the pub and popped in late Sunday afternoon for a bite to eat and a beer and the Greenwich Union did not disappoint. The barman were very friendly and knowledgable and based on their advice I opted for the flight of beers and tasted four different excellent ones.
We had the new goats cheese starter which was amazing and the slice of sausage roll which was surprisingly light. The fish and chip main was very tasty and my wife enjoyed the vegetarian option she chose. We will make a point of revisiting when next in the Greenwich area

“Not the same...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

As we live in the area, we have been there many times in the past 4 years. Nice place to have a drink, and good choice of beers! But since last year, every time we went there for a lunch (6/7 times), we were really disappointed, we ordered the famous beef burger, which used to be AMAZING, but no anymore... The food service is really slow, recently, we even wait 45 minutes for our burger and chips. The burger is still big, but tasteless and you are lucky if your bread is not burnt... Chips are chunky and crunchy, but usually far too much salt, hard to enjoy them... I think it is a real shame as this place use to serve amazing food but since I would say one year, the quality of the food is not the same.

Dear CaroBret,

I’m sorry to hear you have not been enjoying your recent visits to us. As you know we take our food (and beer and everything in between) quite seriously so it’s painful to hear you feel the quality is not the same.

Since last year we have a new head chef, we still make all our own food, in the same premises and apart from the head chef, with the same staff. We still hold to the same principles of top quality, good flavour and good value.

Since last year we have got quite a bit busier (yay!) and at busy times (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) this can mean longer wait on the food. There is very little we can do about this apart from keeping customers informed on the progress. It is not a question of adding more staff, we simply do not have space to increase the volume (the kitchen is smaller than the bar!). At quiet times (Monday to Thursday lunch) delivery time for food like burgers should be 25 minutes, sandwiches should be faster. No excuses.

Burger buns should be toasted and not burnt, the kitchen boys are aware of this and we have just bought a new griddle just to toast buns on to make this easier.

We appreciate your comments, without feedback it is impossible to improve. Please also let us know in person at the time so we can remedy the situation there and then if we can.

Hoping to see you at The Union again soon.

Kind regards

Dan Persson

“Great Crumbled Cod”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

After a visit to the Maritime Museum and a look at the Harrison Sea Clocks, nothing better then a pint and some fish and chips. This pub has some unique brews (I had the Meantime Pilsner) and great crumbled cod. It is small and fills up quickly, but if the weather is right you can enjoy the large outdoor seating area in the back.

“"Great little find"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Following a very enjoyable walk in Greenwich Park we walked into the village looking for somewhere nice to eat and stumbled across this wonderful pub. Although extremely busy we decided to wait for a table and glad we did. The outside seating area at the back would have been heavenly had the weather been warmer; I imagine this pub is well used by locals whatever the climate which is always a good sign. The atmosphere was buzzing and staff were so friendly and accommodating. If I visit the area again I will definately return and intend to let friends know if planning a trip to London.
Although a little away from the centre of the village ask for the police station and it is a short distance from there on the opposite side of the road.
