“Very accommodating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

Just popped in here for a few pints and being tourists we were also looking for some scotch eggs! There was a sharing platter on the menu that included 1 scotch egg but the staff had no problem serving us a scotch egg for £4.50each! As you can see from the picture it was really good. This bar was very busy with an after work crowd, mostly in suits. There is a great vibe in this pub, real old world feel with the clientele wearing vintage clothing also! It's located down a laneway so be careful not to miss it! I will be returning here in summer as I can imagine it would be a lot busier due to the numerous outdoor table in its own private courtyard! My only criticism is the room we were in at the back was near the gents toilet and there was an awful smell from it. Ventilation should be improved here but that wouldn't stop me from returning!

“Combine the 2 Elizabethan Eras.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

The George Inn is a wonderfully atmospheric pub dating back to the age of Elizabeth the First. It is a great place to lunch before visiting the latest London attraction of Queen Elizabeth the Second's reign - The View From The Shard. It is just around the corner from this delightful pub - restaurant.
The restaurant space is quite small and upstairs but is, on a cold winters day, kept warm by an open fire. Service is very friendly and the freshly cooked food comes up quite quickly. The quality is good and the price - considering it's London - is reasonable. The downstairs bar is very cosy with different sitting areas and, in warmer weather, there are a lot of outside tables as well. They don't take reservations so get there in good time for the restaurant opening at 12 noon.

“Poor bar layout and service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

It's a great old pub and is always busy when I have visited which of course is why it's so difficult to get served. The bar is cramped and creates huge pinch points as people move from one section through to the larger area at the rear of the pub.Service is sparodic and frustrating and the staff just don't seem to be bothered. In this area I will always choose the Wheatsheaf, particularly since refurbishment and the Borough for service and friendliness.

We hadn't booked but staff were very helpful and accommodating - good food freshly cooked and would recommend a visit to this historic pub.

“17th century coaching inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Uniquely, a pub owned by the National Trust. A great view of the Shard from the courtyard, service a bit sporadic but it's the architecture that draws the crowds. A nice mixture of Euro-tourists and office workers. If you like pubs, you will probably like The George.
