Good service from waitress Emma who described the beef cheeks starter as wicked. She was nice and that was the best part of the evening really.
I had booked a table for dinner for four, telling them it was a for a business meeting and would prefer to be tucked away. We had a small table in the middle of the restaurant and one of my guests was bumped into interminably by waiting staff rating to get to the table behind.
Starter of beef cheeks was awful. Casserole dishes can be moist, tender and succulent, This was dry, minuscule and tough.
The steaks were in typical City style these days presented on a board as lumps of raw meat. They were average in quality. Highly priced.
All three bowls of chips were soggy. Very bad at these prices.
Both dishes of asparagus with parmesan were bordering on inedible: undercooked asparagus and a mean sprinkling of cheese.
I have been to other Gaucho's (for lunch) and enjoyed it, but this was pretty poor.
On the plus side the cucumber bar snacks were nice and my wife enjoyed her pudding. Nice Malbec wine at top end price for a "recommended" wine, but good quality.
