“Great place to stay and to dine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012

This hotel is truly inspiring - it's actually a traditional but upmarket pub, opposite Smithfield market in the trendy charter house square area. The service is great, they made us feel really at home and in addition to really great rooms the food is also top notch.
The rooms are quite spacious, very clean and very tastefully decorated. Ours also came with huge oak bed, egyptian linen, sofa and flat screen with Bose surround sound -very opulent.
The ensuite bathroom is also worthy of mention with its huge roll top bath, copper sink and separate glass partitioned rainfall shower.
My dream is to be snowed in there next time we have freak UK weather ! I've stopped in some great places in my years but this one takes some topping - recommend this place to all my friends too.

Room Tip: If you get chance try the market suite but don't worry if its already booked - the others are al...

I recently attended this alleged gastropub for a friend's birthday. One member of staff well and truly let the entire place down. Not only did we receive snarky, impatient replies when we asked for details on one item on the menu, we were also treated with utter contempt throughout the entire duration of our visit. To say her treatment was cold would be far too generous, she was flat out rude. Other members of staff were all excellent whenever we encountered them, it's just unfortunate that this ice queen was serving our table.

No tip given, none deserved, she needs to be sacked.

Large table booked for breakfast - originally tried to squeeze us into one of the back rooms which was ridiculous. Tables moved and had enough room.

Biggest advertisement for breakfast is the city boy breakfast - only to be told no liver or kidney - barman seemed to think it was funny it wasn't available

No offer of anything else so had to ask what was the replacement - not what I expected

Breakfasts served intermittently - hash browns and fried bread had been deep fried to death - frieds eggs were overcooked and toast arrived when some of us had nearly finished

Menu stated hot drink available with city boy - nothing offered

Did serve pints of stout which half of us didn't want but was included in the fixed price of 16.95

Bill for £186 for 8 !! - no tip given and none deserved

There is better available and would not visit again

The room we stayed in was nice, but small.

They have a massive problem with customer service at this place. It took a large number of phone calls to get through to anybody that actually made sense and make a booking. I am still waiting for them to get back to me about rooms during the Olympics after numerous attempts to get this information.

They also have a very ropey and confusing pricing policy. Firstly the prices on the website are incorrect. Secondly all the prices they quote do not include VAT and this is not always pointed out to you. I also asked a member of staff if breakfast was included in the price and was told it was. I was then charged extra for breakfast when I checked out. When I questioned this, I was informed that breakfast is never included.

I sent an email to them about all these issues .... I'm still waiting for a reply.

A big waste of a good venue. It is over priced for what it is and the customer service is non-existent. Not recommended.

Just stayed at the Fox & Anchor, in the St Pauls room which was lovely with the most gorgeous bathroom. Pub has some excellent ales on draught and nice wines too. Evening meal was a little disappointing to be honest but the breakfast was good. Will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: St Pauls is a lovely room

Stayed with my daughter for one night in the Market Suite. Warm welcome on arrival, lovely, spacious, comfortable room. Fantastic food in bustling restaurant and best breakfast I have had in a long time! Biggest compliment goes to the staff all of whom gave the highest standards of customer service - nothing was too much trouble. Will be back!
