“A place to avoid ...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2011

This restaurant is now part of the Miller & Carter chain.

We ate here on a Friday evening in June, as we were staying at the Holiday Inn Express within the Albert Dock & wanted somewhere close by to eat.

The place looks fresh, clean & modern ... unfortunately that's where most of the good comments stop. We waited for almost 30 minutes for our starters ... my nachos weren't up to much (a lot of un-melted cheese), and my wife's Creole prawns were totally over-cooked. We weren't asked bythe waitress if we had enjoyed the food.

Whilst we were waiting for our main courses, we ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigot Rose ... not that great unfortunately, nothing rose about it, and £21 ... not worth it.

So we waited ... and waited. After 30 minutes, my "iceberg wedge" side salad appeared with the comment of "your food will be here in a minute". That minute turned into another 20, thus making 50 minutes in total.

Now I have to say that the steak I had was fine, very tender, but my appetite had really gone after waiting so long (and complaining twice). The wife had the Creole chicken ... disaster. Imagine a 3-piece Crispy Strip meal from KFC on a plate, and that's what she got. Except KFC would have been better. The strips were not crispy, just soggy, and the chicken was really stringy. There was nothing "Creole" about it. We complained to the manageress at this point & she said that we wouldn't be charged for the chicken dish ... fair enough, but it was a night out spoiled.

There is absolutely NO way that i could recommend this place to anyone, it's over-priced & the service is shocking ... and it wasn't just us ... as we sat around waiting for our mains, it was clear that several other tables were experiencing the same. For the same money you could have a fabulous meal at Matou ... so go there & avoid this place.

“Lovely Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2011

We stopped at the premier inn at the albert docks and wanted somewhere close by to eat after a long day. My wife had printed off some two for one vouchers which we duly used. The beer choice is limited to bottles but cocktails and wine are feeely available. The meals were seved very hot and were very tasty. We returned the following day and had a meal off the lunch menu. We decided to have something simple, and decided on fish fingers with skinny chips and minted mushy peas. the fish fingers were large (4 off) and the mushy peas were out of this world. The staff were eficient and friendly. In my opinion its the best place to eat around the albert dock at reasonable price.
