I stayed here with just before Xmas 2012. Yes, as with most Travelodges the rooms are very minimal (e.g. no drawers & not much hanging space). However the hotel only opened in Feb 2012 and consequently still feels very modern and new. Our room was clean & fresh and at the back of the building, which was quiet. Tip: if you want a twin room - we were advised to swap our family room for a disabled room as the bed split into two very comfy single beds, which suited my Mum & I much better.
Unusually for a Travelodge, it has a bar & restaurant which is open all day - and a reception which is manned 24 hours a day. The food at the restaurant was reasonably priced with a varied menu and we found the staff to be really helpful and friendly.
I can't stress enough how amazing the location is. In the public area in front of the lifts, you have a lovely view of Albert Dock even from just 2 floors up (and the hotel has 9 floors). The Liver Building is a stone's throw away and Liverpool One (new shopping centre & restaurants) are a 5 minute walk round to the left. Across the road you have the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Liverpool and The Beatle's Story exhibition - plus the Tate gallery. A ten minute walk away is the Cavern Club. Lime Street Station is approx 1 mile from the hotel, a short taxi ride.
I can't stress enough how much there is to do in Liverpool! And it is so cheap!!! The hotel provides an 'eat-as-much-as-you-like' cooked breakfast for £7.65 per person but we found a cafe within minutes of the hotel (on the left, towards Liverpool One) which does a cooked breakfast for £3.80! All with views of Albert Dock. Fab! We definitely plan to return summer 2013 - and to the same hotel.
