“Great pub, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We were in Liverpool celebrating a friends birthday and we arranged to meet at the Phil for a drink. I was put off suggesting eating there by reviews I had read. However, we didn't have much time to eat before hitting the town, so opted to eat there. The service was very good, we didn't have to wait long, the food was good and not expensive. I had carimelised red onion tart and had to give some of it away as there was so much I knew I wouldn't eat my main. Then I had a large chicken and mushroom pie with chips, peas and asparagus. The only complaint we had was they had run out of cod and only had haddock. We were early diners, at 5pm and by the time we left at about 6.15, the restaurant was full.

“Poor food, great pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

Fantastic drinking pub. The place is stunning. The atmosphere is great and the overall ambience is great. Seriously one of the best drinking pubs I've ever been to. But the food and restaurant is a real let down. You leave the elegance of the downstairs area to go into a drab, average room with little or no atmosphere. The food was very disappointing. No garnish. No style. Just basic slapped on the plate pub grub. What a let down.

“Been here many times.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

The Philharmonic seems to be aimed more at OAPs but I still appreciate the shows put on here. The short kilt-wearing organist they have on before shows sometimes, is, fantastic yet hilariously bizarre.
