“Great place, Great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

We had a voucher entitling us to a 2 course table d' hote meal. Niki the senior restaurant supervisor said we could upgrade to the a la carte easily so all options were available. The free glass of Champagne was poor quality. Too sweet for decent Chmpagne but it was free. The food (other than the excellent dessert) was ok and the female staff especially Emma are wonderful. When the male senior restauarant managers arrived arounf 8.00 pm it was noticable that they stood around talking to each other whilst the attentive girls ran around looking after the guest. Good atmosphee and we enjoyed it. Close to all ameneties.

“birthday meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

This was also a deal £29 for two people two course with champagne. We arrived it is so gorgeous inside, with beautiful little lights up the stair well. the restaurant was quiet which i would expect on a Tuesday night. As we dont drink champagne, we asked if we could have a short which was fine with the waitress. The meal was of an exceptional high standard. The service excellent, well worth a visit if you are the town centre. I am not sure of full price meals as there was no menu on the table but for £29 for two it was excellent value.

“Terrible rip off !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Have just returned from Hilton, Liverpool having used a Travelzoo voucher given to us as a present by our children - feel so sorry them because they have been well & truly ripped off. Offer was for meal for 2 from Tdh menu with a glass of champagne each in the Exchange restaurant, lunch or dinner. Firstly, we were seated immediately to the left of main entrance in what can only be described as the foyer. I have now checked on hotel website & we were definitely NOT in the Exchange Restauant so first point of mis-selling. Secondly, the menu, choice of soup, melon or Palma ham, mains choices Caesar Salad, ploughman's lunch, sea bream or Greek salad, no carbs included in this price of £15 per head! At time of purchase example menu promises much more quality and quantity than what on offer. We were not alone in being disappointed - several other people were complaining. The only reason we didn't was we didn't want to upset our children. We chose the melon and Palma ham - both were served with a bit of rocket & no dressing so very dry and poor quality. Mains we had ploughman's and Caesar salad. The Ploughman's came with two types of stale bread, sweaty cheese and no butter; the anchovies in the Caesar salad while not off were decidedly on the old side. The service was indifferent at best so overall a very disappointing experience. Come on Hilton if you think this is 5* and luxurious as your website offers then you are way off the mark.

“Very, very poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

We visited the Exchange after hearing mixed reviews & after staying in the Hilton itself (but not eating in the restaurant) the month before. From start to finish it was awful. Service was very poor throughout. Couldn't find the reservation but then 3 pages in scribbled in a corner there were a few reservations for a few people - including us. The person serving us was a trainee which we didn't mind - but we weren't told. She was thrown in to the deep end & had no previous experience. She was a lovely girl but the training programme, if any, was terrible. Simple things like not knowing the menu, what the soup or specials were was a little annoying. Starters were served & both were tasteless. Lack of seasoning & my terrine just did not go together. Wine which was supposed to come with the food (as arranged with the wine waiter) did not come until the mains...& it was wrong. The wine we ordered was not available so we were just given an alternative. The wine waiter advised me that it is exactly the same as the other but £5 cheaper. Hmm. Really?! We didn't stay for desert, cheese or coffee & were out within the hour. The restaurant had no atmosphere (unlike the bar which was trendy) & the decor was awful. From previous experience, it was exactly the same layout as for breakfast - without the trolley style tables. Terrible food, terrible service. A let down as the hotel is lovely as us the exclusive nightclub downstairs.

“Enjoyable evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

After reading the reviews were very worried about going we also had a voucher. I decided to drive rather than making a night of it but that was a mistake. The meal was really enjoyable and the service was very good. They had a live singer so wished i never drove. So dont be put off by most reviews on this site.
