The lobby was very nice and the staff were welcoming. The room was small, as was the bathroom, but we were only staying for one night so it did the trick. If you were to stay there for a week, it might be a bit too small if it was for a holiday.

The room was lovely and clean and you could really tell from the creases in the duvet cover! If you are hygiene freak like me then you shouldn't have any problems!

Our room had a cool view of the River Mersey. Other rooms had views of the 'city'. Our friends stayed in a different room, with a view of some apartments. We both paid the same price.

We were going out into Liverpool as it was our friends' birthday. Beforehand, we went into the hotel bar, but this wasn't really anything special. In a weird way, it didn't really match the rest of the hotel.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main town centre, about 10 minutes and i did it in heels, so it was fine!! The breakfast was included in the price and was buffet style, so of course there were muffins, full english breakfast, pastries, breads etc. If it wasn't included, I would have probably gone into town for a cheaper version!

When we came in at 1am, it was nice that they had a security guard in the lobby who made sure we were staying at the hotel, so it was safe.

There is an NCP car park next door, but we were able to use the hotels car park which is just around the corner and we were told that sometimes you can get away without paying for it. We did pay to use it, but not as much as we should have! So for the sake of a five minute walk, you could save yourself a bit of cash.

The only negative about the stay was that for a short period at 7am in the morning, we could hear people opening and closing their doors,
which sounded like slamming. (The curtains are fab though, really thick to block out any sign of light!!) Also the cleaner, I think, opened our door but must have realised we were still sleeping, so left. The same happened to our friends, as the cleaner was hoovering,
but she actually had to sit up in bed and say 'Hello'!!

Overall, it was great to get away and it was a superb hotel for the night. Would stay again for definite!

The hotel is in a good location. The entrance has quite a few stairs so not good if you have cases. The room was of a high standard and was well equipped.

None of the staff were particularly customer focused. Upon arrival the guy at the desk was looking at his screen and mumble I will be with you in a minute. Did not really make you feel welcome or important as a customer. None of the housekeeping staff spoke or said good morning. There was only one guy in the restaurant that was very pleasant, the other staff did not say anything.

The actual breakfast was very good. All very hot and looked fresh and replenished. The fresh juices needed to be chilled though, these were all warm.

Check out was quick but again, no customer service, just “that’s it”. No checks to see how my stay had been. There were a lot of young staff messing around and being told to be quiet. A pity, a great hotel with potential but needs some customer focus.

Selected this hotel due to its location and the fact that the Hotels.com website specified that it has free parking for residents. Firstly (not perhaps an error of the hotel but Hotels.com) the parking is NOT free, it is £6 per car per night, the price also came up on the website as £70 but after going through the booking process admin and booking fee;s are soon added making the price nearer to £90, I really don't think they should say it is £70 if it is not.

When I spoke to someone at the car park they did apologise for the error and not charge the parking fee.

Then when i arrived at the hotel the room appeared tired and worn out and very dated. Then when I came to have a shower my bath had someone else's hairs in it already! Generally the place was disappointing, not a lot made me feel it was worth the sort of money that they charge to stay for a night.

Really for a hotel in a chain like Thistle its not what you expect.

Stayed here for one night on a work visit to Liverpool.

Excellent check in and very friendly reception staff.

Room was very nice, and very clean. With air conditioning units which
was nice.

Hotel is in a good location with some nice views of the Liver building and the surounding church. Also near the shops which is great for anyone who loves a bit of clothes shopping!!!!

Breakfast was great, very good choice, and very friendly waiting staff.

All in all had an excellent stay. Would visit again

I stayed in the Thistle last year for about 8 weeks in total during a project. I used it primarily for location and price - we were able to get it for about £75 a night. This year, at the start of another 10 weeks in LIverpool I used the Thistle for the first week - unfirtunately for them I wont re-book. Its not that its terrible - its not. The rooms which have not yet been refurbished are in a generally poor state of repair, and in particular the bathrooms are cold and in dire need of repair or probably replacement. The rooms have no opening windows, but do have efficient and fairly quiet air conditioning. I had a twin room (curiously with different length beds) with a decent view of the Mersey, although I was bothered a bit by some road noise. The hotel is generally fairly noisy - I could hear next doors telly clearly, as I am sure they could mine. Reception is clean and nicely presented, and the staff are friendly.

One minor criticism is that at check in I was (it seems) inadvertantly charged for the full stay - and then I had difficulty getting room service because they told me I didnt have a credit card registered, despite them actually owing me money for the duration! The room service meal was OK. Breakfast is buffet style, and decent enough. Housekeeping staff deserve a mention for their friendliness, although it must be hard to clean shabby rooms.

I have booked the Radisson for next week, only £10 dearer, so lets see how that measures up!
