I was made to feel really welcome by the friendly staff when I visited Liverpool as a lone female planning to take photographs of street art in Liverpool. My idea was to use the hotel as a base for exploring the culture of the city. The room was clean, the food basic and the staff very welcoming, creating a homely environment. Although the hotel is situated opposite a factory in the middle of the run-down industrial part of Bootle Dock, it is on the same road as the trendy Camden Market full of vintage clothing, records and objects of interest and just around the corner, still in Bootle you will find some amazing statues and architecture. The hotel is only a 5 minute drive to the posh Albert Dock where all the upmarket shops, museums and galleries are. There were other arty types and musicians staying at the time, giving the hotel a slightly Bohemian feel. The hotel was good value although you would need a car, taxi or bus to get to the heart of the city. I will defintiely visit the hotel again. This downtown area of Docklands could be regenerated to become an art district - I feel it has the potential to attract creative, culture vultures in search of something a bit edgy.

Although the staff were friendly I found the hotel to be of a very low standard.
1. No on-suite
2. Very small room
3. Headboard not attached to bed
4. We had a leak in our room soaking all our clothes
5. Staff entering our room while we were in bed

All this for £67.

I have stayed in the YHA in Liverpool and the accommodation there was far superior than the Regent Maritime Hotel.

I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK !!!!!

If you are going to see Liverpool football club play, the hotel offers a minibus service to take you to the stadium which is helpful[£2.00 per person].
I felt the receptionist was not very welcoming, she seemed more concerned with receiving the rest of the sum owed and ,any general questions that i had were met with irritation as if i was bothering her.
The room was nice and warm and the shower facilities were good, however, the duvet smelt of cigarette smoke and the room was dusty in places, especially under the bed.
The photograph that advertises this hotel gives it a sense of history, however, the area that the hotel is situated in is rather run down, the view that i had from my room was of a very attractive nitrogen tank from a chemical works of some description!
Also, i noted that trucks would park up overnight directly opposite the hotel, the surrounding buildings are decaying old warehouses.
The English breakfast is adequate but i have had much better elsewhere.
The hotel is a little way outside the city, so if you don,t have a car you will mainly have to rely on taxi,s, especially during the evenings.
The hotel has good parking facilities, a bar and they also serve evening meals but i did not try these.
I noticed that fire doors were wedged open throughout the hotel, this is against health and safety regulations.
All in all, Liverpool is a great city to visit with charming people etc, but i would only use this hotel if there was nowhere else available.
