I stayed at the Holiday Inn for 2 days as part of a work commitment. Check in was laboured and had to wait ages for a lift as they only have 2 and with 9 floors extremely busy. Room was basic and clean, however badly needs upgraded and the bed was 2 singles pushed together with the most uncomfiest mattress. Did not eat in the hotel, however not enough staff to cope with the guests and they spent 10 minutes looking for Pinot grigio but eventually said they had none! A basic bottle of wine in my eyes that every hotel should stock. City centre location is excellent and easy to get to the shops.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

I had a one night stay booked because my first choice wasn't available for all 3 nights. The location couldn't be any closer to Lime Street Station - but there is a much nicer hotel half a block further from the station.
Check in was fine, and reception was friendly (and Liverpool is friendly in my experience). I got to my room and it was in very bad shape. It is hard to put an age on it because obviously rooms get used and abused but with the hard as concrete, worn and stained carpet (with no underpadding you could actually feel lumps underneath!), the ripped wallpaper, old furniture it is need of an extensive refurbishment.

And the bed had one of the worst mattresses I've ever had the displeasure of sleeping on. The springs are all gone and it is half the thickness of my mattress at home. For those of you sensitive to the fact you are sleeping on a shared mattress, you will not be happy to hear that they didn't even use a fitted sheet - they placed a flat sheet over the mattress which didn't quite cover it up. No mattress protector, no mattress topper - just a flat sheet.

Internet was a very reasonable 5 GBP/day but it isn't WiFi - so for those hoping to use smartphones and tablets, you're out of luck with the wired connection in the room.

The shower/tub had plenty of hot water and pressure and an adjustable shower head which should fit most tall people. The bathroom lighting was terrible if you are a woman wanting to put on makeup - the placement of overhead lights facing down puts your face in a constant shadow. Not something I think about, but my wife has educated me over the years.

The room had a very simple and functioning heating/cooling system. It was easy to achieve a desired temperature.

It is not uncommon in Europe for hotels to not have many of the standard items I see in North America and Asia. There was no: mini fridge; iron and ironing board; bars of soap (instead body gel); hand/body lotion; free bottle of water. The TV had about 20 channels but in spite of the HDTV, I don't remember seeing any HD channels.

I didn't eat at the restaurant or try any of the fitness facilities.

Considering I'm at a hotel within a minute's walking distance for not a lot more which is significantly better, I can not recommend this hotel at all. On this trip, Holiday Inn is 0 for 2.

Dear 'cannonfodder99'
Thank you for taking the time to complete your review following your stay with us in Liverpool.
Despite mixed feedback, I was pleased to learn that you found our staff friendly and that you benefitted from our great location in the City Centre. I was also good to know that the services we maintain in terms of shower & air-conditioning added some satisfaction of your accommodation experience.
In terms of the areas you highlight which led to some disatisfaction, we shall certainly use your comments constructively in improving our product for future guests; including the provision of Wi-Fi in all hotel bedrooms in 2013.
Thank you, once again.
Yours faithfully
Jonathan

Whilst attending The Royal Liverpool University Hospital we stayed at the Holiday Inn Liverpool, it was a difficult time for me, but the staff were always helpful and kind, and efficient and pleasant.

Four of us stayed for the night of Friday 17th January. Reception was first class and ideal rooms were selected for our needs. Rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet ensuring a good night's sleep.
Breakfast on Saturday was more than adequate with a good range of cereals, fruit and cooked options. We will use this hotel again as it is very convenient for Lime Street Station, the Liverpool Empire Theatre and all major city attractions.

This was our first trip to Liverpool and was made all the better by the fantastic location and friendly staff at this hotel. Our welcome was one of the best we have ever experienced and set the tone for our stay. The rooms are a great size with lots of space. You shouldn't need to stay in the hotel for long though as there is so much to see and do in this fabulous city.
We had additional needs during our stay including getting emails printed out at reception which were completed straight away and staff gave recommendations for trips to book during our stay.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel for our next stay and are looking forward to this already.

We have just returned from an excellent stay at the Holiday Inn, Liverpool. We stayed on the 7th floor and had an excellent view of Liverpool's cityscape.
The rooms were compact but had all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay - steam iron, soap dispensers and tea/coffee making facilities. I also liked the fact that you could open the window.
Breakfast was very good and had a lot of choice.
Parking was exceptional value for money - £6.00 for 24 hrs at the St John's Precinct car park (reduced rate as you were staying at the hotel).
The staff were pleasant and very efficient.
Thanks for a nice stay.

Room Tip: Higher floor if at all possible
