I went to the Hilton Liverpool for a girls weekend with friends from 4th-6th Feb 2011. We actually picked the city (Liverpool) out of a hat a few months before for a weekend away but were a little concerned about the cost of hotels as we had heard that hotels were rather expensive in Liverpool, still being from London that was no surprise to us.
We found a great deal on a website called travelzoo which is a bit like last minute. Com. The deal was 2 nights stay at the Hilton £85 per room per night, 3 course dinner and a bottle of wine the first night and breakfast both days.
The hotel location is great, approximately 10 mind ride in a taxi from the station and 5 mins walk from Liverpool one shopping centre/ Restaurants.
The rooms were immaculate and comfortable with modern decor. They had a really cool speaker system in the bathroom so that if you were in the bathroom you could turn the speakers on so you you could hear the TV rather having to crank up the TV volume.
The TV was set up with a welcome message in the name of the person that booked it. My find booked the room and she was very impressed with seeing her name on the TV screen :-D
Beds were very comfortable and the Windows were floor to ceiling. We were situated at the side of the hotel. If your looking for views of lush green pastures forget it this is a city hotel still lovely all the same.
The staff at the front desk checked us in swiftly and promptly, it only took a couple of minuted. There was no offer from staff to help up with our luggage which was disappointing as I have stayed at the Hilton chain many times and have never experienced this.
Our room had no washing flannels on arrival and so we called housekeeping who came up promptly and advised that they had run out as they we all bring washed but would locate some from another room which she did.
By no fault of the hotel our rooms were not serviced the following day as we had a heavy night previously when discovering the delights that Liverpools night life had to offer so we made good use of the do not disturb sign! However later that afternoon we did call housekeeping to order some shampoo etc. Housekeeping did not answer the phone, we tried room service who said they would sort it, they arrived some time later minus some of the items we had asked for which resulted in us going to the front desk to what we needed.
Dinner on the first night was part of our package. The menu was more sophisticated than I had expected and the food was well presented.
Staff were more than happy to adjust the dishes to suit, I don't eat pork and so the pancetta mouse was replaced with creamy mashed potato in fact I only asked that the mouse be excluded from my dish , it was the waitress that offered an alternative. The wine was very nice and the overall service was great.
There were quite a lot of people at breakfast time but the staff dealt with it well. We were given a guide to how long we were due to wait for a table, 10 mins we were seated in the lounge and told to help ourselves to the fresh fruit juices whilst we waited.
There was plenty of choice for breakfast its a shame only pork sausages were on offer however they did serve pancakes, which they made to order unfortunately they were a little hard.
I would all in all the breakfast was certainly edible but not flavoursome. It did manage to soak up the alcohol from the night before.
I must say i have stayed at other Hilton hotels and the breakfast has always been fabulous but that was not the case here.
This branch of the Hilton chain did not have leisure or spa facilities which was a shame and it would have been nice to have a massage at least.
They have a lounge bar which entertains the residents and possibly non-residents to the early hours of the morning. The music was good and they offer a good selection of cocktails. The lounge is very stylish in decor and comfortable. In all honesty we spent little time there but it was a nice option all the same.
Nice hotel ,lovely clean, comfortable rooms with great location. Need to work on bringing the standard of service and breakfast in line with other Hilton hotels. Would I stay there again? Yes indeed. It was fabulous for the purpose for which we required. However if I wanted to get away and relax then I probably would not stay here da they have no spa, the service isn't as great as it could or should be so its likely is spend less time relaxing and more time chasing after missing shampoo and flannels whilst digesting mediocre breakfast.
Please note I did not rate service the marks but for some reason the system won't let me adjust it on this review.
