date of visit 4/12 -table for 4 7.45-First visit for me and my wife ,who were meeting a couple of friends in this well established restaurant. First impressions were positive, but the night went down hill from there. Poor service, not trained in the slightest, mix up over drinks and food order do not bode well for this place at all.Working myself in a city centre restaurant, i pride myself in customer servive which is paramount in this industry, especially in this current climate, and to add student types to your staff without training and knowledge is just not on!-The jury is out whether i shall return as maybe they just had an "off" night.

“A lack lustre experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

The good things about Puschka are that it is close (a few blocks or under 10 min walk) from the Philharmonic Hall and that it serves until after 9 pm so one can book a table here after seeing a concert. Given Pushkas high rating on TripAdvisor I was really looking forward to a meal after seeing the Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, but unfortunately I found the meal rather lack lustre.

When I found the restaurant I thought it looked rather attractive from the Street and the interior was smart and cosy. It even had a Monty Pythonesque logo. The service was friendly and I choose the trout for the main which is a favourite of mine. I also ordered wine, but the waiter seemed a little too involved with a large group of dinners and kept forgetting to bring the wine. After the third reminder my wine arrived. When the food was served I soon felt disappointed, the vegetables were a little overcooked and the fish had very little taste. The food was reasonably presented but good food needs to also taste good and this dish was definitely missing out on texture and flavour. The poor quality of the dish did not reflect the moderate bill I received and I left without any desire to return.

“Excellent Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

A little pricey, unless you book the early doors, but well worth the money as the food is to a very high standard and very enjoyable indeed! The steak is probably one of the best I've ever had and I've eaten in some top restaurants in the UAE. Deserts were just divine! Well worth the money, will definitely return.

“Extremely stylish but a mixed experience overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Puschka is very stylish - the decor is great and I really dig the lights, they're extremely cool! Couple that with extremely friendly staff, a gently buzzing atmostphere, a menu proclaiming locally sourced ingredients and modern english cooking, and this is the kind of place that I really want to like, it's almost got the perfect formula. Unfortunately, a few things let it down. Firstly the food. Solid, but neither that exciting nor that well cooked. My chicken liver parfait was really good, but it was only chicken liver parfait. My partners pigeon breast on barley was well cooked and a nice piece of meat, but there was something missing, a bit too much barley, a bit too little "zing". Don't know, but it didn't quite work. Mains: great piece of sirloin, extremely high quality piece of meat and well coooked (rare!) but it was a little underseasoned and the rosti was a bit frazzled; braised venison shank should have been a winner but wasn't. Again, the seasoning was off, it lacked something and could possibly have been braised longer (in my humble estimation - I spend a lot of time slow braising meat, this is something that should be easy to get right!). What else... wine, the reasonably pricey bottle of Ribera de Duero should have been great but wasn't - like Puschka itself, the bottle was stylish but the contents lacked something (very modern style, lacking in structure). And, while the service was good, and the staff friendly, on a reasonably quiet night the kitchen took some time producing dishes, which doesn't bode well for a busy night! So, all in all, while the style is there, the substance is not quite.

“Excellent food, great value and choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012 via mobile

Pushka virgins. Read reviews, checked menu online and noticed early bird. 3 courses and glass of wine £19 ish. Dont normally go for those deals as prefer quality over cost. Very impressed with Pushka. Lovely food. I am a meat eater but was accompanied by 2 veggies. We all enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. Staff very helpful also. Chilled and relaxing. Well done and thankyou...
