we were a group of eight and the only people in the restaurant one evening we waited what seemed like ages for the main course they all arrived at different times some orders wrong the food though nice was small portions for the price a few of us had desserts all either ice cream or cheese cake and we even waited total of 40 minutes for them even though not one hot dessert among them would hate to go there when they were busy

“Great value for money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Friday 2nd Aug. We chose to sit outside despite the wobbly table (which the waitress pointed out and is being replaced as a refit is now under way - reopens Friday I think). Had the special deal of starter and main from selected dishes and both courses for both of us were perfect and despite only £9.95 per head were generous portions. Returned the next night as we prefer outdoor eating but had 2 mains (both pasta) from the menu so we could have a desert each - with a large bottle of mineral water (as I am medically restricted re alcohol) and still only just over £30. 2 great evening meals for 2 people for around £55. Of course you pay more for more elaborate dishes but we thoroughly enjoyed what we had and the service was friendly and efficient without being over-attentive. Top marks! Only drawback was noisy pubs next door and opposite but the restaurant can't do much about this.

Unfortunately the “Good, but beware the wine list!” review below hadn’t been written when we decided to visit the restaurant, and we went based on the previous reviews. We had looked at the menu online but despite there being a beverage list which purports to include the wine list it does not. However the other drinks seemed reasonably priced so we went ahead with our visit – note to self, if you can’t see the wine list there’s a reason!

Our visit at 15.45 on a Saturday, a pretty quiet time, was disappointing. The service, although polite, was tardy. We were brought the food menu but it was only after ordering our food that we saw the wine list. We would normally ask to see the drinks menu before ordering but because we were tight for time, (Lincoln’s parking regulations) we couldn’t wait for the waitress to appear to ask to see it, then wait again for her to bring it, then again to order. On viewing the wine list it all became clear - no wine prices online, no wine list until after ordering, with the cheapest wine £16.95 a bottle we definitely felt like we’d been tricked! Of course we didn’t have to order wine, but what’s the point in having an Italian meal on holiday without a glass of wine.

When the food arrived it was cool and varying in quality. My Caciotta-In-Carrozza was very ordinary, due to the temperature no oozing mozzarella, the accompanying fruit chutney and drizzles on the plate were tasty though. The Funghi al Aglio on the other hand would have been very good if it had been warm. The selected toppings on the pizza main were not over generously applied, but the underlying tomato mozzarella base was good enough that it was a reasonable pizza. The Festa di Carne burger was outstanding, with plenty of mozzarella, a good piece of Parma ham and the mayonnaise was superb. Unfortunately this triumph was let down by cold, greasy flaccid chips – and it could have been so good!

Disappointing at best, and the price of wine is ridiculous. It seems a bizarre strategy, they may hoodwink diners once but they won’t return, we certainly won’t.

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We ate here 3rd August and were disappointed at the lack of choice due to no stock as they were closing for 4 days. We ended up ordering anything due to this and it was a total disappointment. Chicken arrabiatta was oily, Lasagne lacked flavour only good thing was the chips. The older female waitress who was serving us was quite stroppy when asked what else was on the menu and not very attentive to our table which was also a let down. This was nothing like any other Italian experience we have ever had which is a shame as we were really looking forward to an authentic Italian meal. We would not eat here again a waste of over £50.

“Average food!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Plenty of Italian restaurants and this one really is pretty average on all counts. Ok service but the food and wine list is quite poor + only one beer choice!

On the plus side the restaurant is located right in the centre and the building itself has some character.

Still wouldn't visit again though.
