“Great Castle, Good Info”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

We went here for a trip whilst on holiday and were very happy ,the castle is lovely situated around lovely grounds, which you could even stop on to have a picnic on a nice day. The audio tour that you can have for free when you go in gives lots of information about the castle. The Church next to this is lovely as well.

“Castle with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

A National Trust property. Built by Ralph, the Cromwell who was Treasurer to Henry VI. Only the keep tower is left standing, but thanks to some sympathetic restoration in the early 20th century this is both impressive... and far from a ruin. There are several floors to explore before the roof is reached. Because of the height of the tower, and the flat nature of the surrounding countryside, the views are truly amazing. Lincoln Cathedral can be clearly seen on the horizon. The large church next to the car park is well worth a visit too.

“interesting tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Just the thing for a damp afternoon. Interesting look at the history of this castle (although not a 'defensible fortification' more decorative.
Be sure to check opening days before travelling as it's not a seven day opening.
Take the audio handset, it makes the tour much more interesting than just looking at the empty structure.
Call in the church next door for tea and cakes and to support the church.
Lot of spiral steps to climb, so not for those who don't like steep stairways.

National Trust members free entry.

“Britain at its best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

A lovely day out for young and old. Take a picnic and be prepared to enjoy the scenery. The views from the roof are worth the many stairs.
