Excellent village pub with a friendly atmosphere and great food. There is a small intimate restaurant room at the back of the pub as well as the main bar and another room, where children are welcome as well as in the small restaurant area.
Since moving to Lincolnshire 3 years ago we have eaten out in many pubs in and around Lincoln and we eat here regularly as a couple, with friends and with family and have never had a bad meal. The menu is extensive and very reasonablly priced - excellent steak pie, stir fries (beef and mushroom awesome), steaks etc, home cooking at its best. Steak nights on Monday are a favourite with us, £25 for a good bottle of house wine (the red is delicious) and a couple of steaks or gammon - large portions and proper chips.
The pub has an excellent selection of malt whiskies and gins and the landlord, Mal, is very knowledgeable on all things alcohol and his wife Diane is an excellent cook and has expanded the menu over time!
The reason for the best pub food opininon - the local Lincoln food critic visited the pub last year and gave a 5 out of 5 review for quality and generosity of the food. This was around the time he awarded 3 out of 5 to a pub/restaurant in nearby Coleby which won an award as the best pub restaurant. We have eaten in both and while the food quality of both are excellent the Butcher and Beast wins on portion size and cost. Last Saturday I tried the Monster burger (as eaten by the food critic). Absolutely huge and delicious.
As already stated we have eaten in many pubs, but the Butcher and Beast is our favourite and the other pubs we have eaten in have on occasion had our custom due to the Butcher and Beast being full, so best to book particularly at weekends.
The pub does have a large beer garden so outdoor seating is available in the summer.
