We had booked the table in the waitress served area for 2.30 p.m. for 6 people. We sat down in an area on the opposite end from our original area, where the tables did not match (not even the same height) and we had 3 very tall men. We decided on our order and waited for a member of staff to servive us. My friend asked one of the waitresses when we would be servied - to be told that we had to order items from the bar. We all wrote down our order - 6 starters amd 6 mains. I took this up to the counter - and expressed my dissatisfaction of having to place the order at the bar, when we had already expected waiter service. The young man at the bar said he remembered taking my booking at request and said he would get the manager. The manager apologised and said she would organise waitress service. She went through the order and stated there were only 4 mains - to which I pointed out there were further orders on the reverse of the piece of paper. Again she apologised and took the order into the kitchen. The starters arrived after 3p.m. 2 of my friends ordered prawn cocktail,, due to the fact they did not have any scallops. This arrived in a cereal bowl with a 'slab' of letttuce (one of which had not been cleaned and had soil on it, a blob of marie rose sauce and my other friend had no cutlery to eat this with. We asked the waitress if we could have some cutlery - to which she responded - she was busy- and again my friend said that his wife could not eat her starter without any cutlery - again the waitress asked us what cutlery would we like? - She then returned asking if they would like a desert spoon or a teaspoon. That incident completed and we were able to eat the food. We completed the starters - the table was cleared then we waited, and waited and waited for our main meals. It was now gone 4 p.m. and we were still waiting for our main meals. The final insult came when a couple who had sat down after us were served their main meals. By this time I was truly upset for two reasons - one we had been to this inn on several previous occasions and had lovely meals, excellent service and a comfortable atmosphere, and it was one of our friends who (having come from Beverley) wanted to return, as they had enjoyed the food so much, and my other friends I had kept trying to persuade them to come with us as the previous experiences had been so good. We then decided that due to the attitude of the waitress, the standard of the starters and the unreasonable delay, we were not prepared to wait any longer for our food. One of my friends and I both offered to pay for the food we had eaten, but at this point the manageress said there would be no charge and kept apologising. I can only reiterate that I was not only dissatisfied, but totally disgusted. I felt let down and had ruined a Bank Holiday Sunday for 6 people. We ended going to one of my friends houses where she put together a quick buffet.
