This restaurant is based in a very long established parade of shops called 'The Forum' in the small town of North Hykeham, four miles south of Lincoln. It's a very nondescript, boring little suburban place that makes watching paint dry seem interesting (...and before you complain, it's the town where I grew up, so I have a right to say this - even though I now live many miles away).
The restaurant itself is tiny and has been crammed into what used to be a small shop, followed more recently by a greasy spoon cafe. So your first impression when you walk inside are of a small cafe for elderly shoppers, rather than a quality Italian restaurant. But don't let that put you off. I have been on several occasions and the quality of the food has been surprisingly superb.
No corners have been cut at Tiamo, like you get so often these days (...you know the sort of thing - fake 'cheese' (often called 'mozzitop' in the trade), cheap frozen ingredients, turkey-salami, pre-cooked pizza bases, bottled tomato gloop on the pasta, etc, etc, etc).
Despite its deceptive appearances both on the inside and outside, Tiamo is the ''real deal''. Excellent fresh ingredients cooked lovingly inside the fully open-plan (tiny) kitchen area so you can see what they're doing as they cook your food. It would be so easy for them to cut corners in this type of place, but you can see that these guys are more interested in keeping their standards high and delivering genuine quality.
Whenever I've been there, the service has been outstanding as well. The waiting staff have always been attentive, friendly and very, very professional.
This is genuine high quality Italian food - in the last place you'd ever expect to find it.
