“Delightful place to rest your head.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

I stummbled across Cathedral View, whilst looking for somewhere to stay whilst on business in Lincoln.
Lovely location, beside the Cathedral, close to lots of lovely places to eat .

The Cathedral View offers very Chic comfortable rooms, with lots of attention to detail.
Spotlessly clean , Fab bed linen and pillows. Ensuring a very cosy night.

Paul is a perfect host, and makes a wonderful breakfast.

I would Highly recommend Cathedral View.
So much so I have booked in every month or so until Dec whilst working in Lincoln.

Excellent guesthouse in prime location. Very good and sympathetic restoration. Paul was a perfect host and we had a very enjoyable stay. The parking was a bit tricky but the location justified it. It might better be called the Cathedral Close since while being very close the views were limited.

After trawling the internet for weeks to find a hotel in Lincoln for a romantic break only to find most of the hotels I liked had functions on (weddings, balls etc which were likely to take over the hotel) I had given up hope when I stumbled across the Cathedral View. I must admit I am not a fan of guest houses as I prefer the anonymity of a big hotel and find generally that the standards are higher, I particularly don't like eating breakfast in someones converted lounge nearly touching elbows with the diners at the next table, well I assure you non of that applies to Cathedral View.
This is a 'boutique' guest house with real character. All of the rooms are individually styled and non of the original features of this lovely building whose history can be traced back to the twelfth century have been lost.
We stayed in room 6 which is the smallest room but still had a double bed and ensuite and plenty of storage space with a wardrobe and a large chest of drawers and two bedside tables. It had a lovely original sash window with plenty of floor space infront to dump our bags. The bathroom was small but perfectly adequate and finished to a high standard with a lovely shower and heated towel rail. The bed was very comfy and the bed linen was of a high quality and the sheets clean and crisp. The room was very cosy and romantic.
My one and only critiscm would be the lighting, there was a gorgeous chandelier and two bedside lamps in the bedroom giving off a lovely subdued light but the only lighting in the bathroom was from two small inset lights in the ceiling which although created a nice warm glow and did not offer a very good light for applying make up, removing contact lenses, shaving etc. That said it would not put me off staying again but just something that could maybe be improved.
After spending the day wandering around the Bailgate and having a drink in the White Hart hotel which is just round the corner (very expensive drinks, poor service and lacking in atmosphere in the day) we booked a table for an evening meal at Cafe Zoot which is less than 2 mins walk away
this proved to be another great find - set two course menu for £12, attentive, quick service and delicious food.
Breakfast the next morning was served by the owner Paul in the delightful breakfast room which again is finished to a high standard whilst keeping the original features. I loved the crockery and linen napkins. Full English was delicious with as much cereal, toast and drinks as we wanted and Paul was an attentive host.
Free parking was a bonus and we arrived at 12 p.m hoping to be able to leave our car in the car park until our room was ready to be told we could go straight in. We also left our car in the car park the next morning for a couple of hours.
I could rave on and on about the things that I liked about this real gem in an area of Lincoln filled with character and history but the best thing you could do would be to go see for yourself. You will not be dissapointed, we certainly were not and can't wait to go back

We stayed at the guesthouse last Christmas and we have very good memories of the time. We stayed in the room with a sitting room atatched to it. The qualitiy of decoration, comfort and facilities is excellent, the location could not be improved on. The weatehr was wet and windy but becasue it's in the centre we could go for a walk or on an excursion and then come back when it started raining or we got cold, have a cup of tea, watch some telly, go out again after some time. The whole city is on your doorstep. The owner was very welcoming and the breakfasts great.

Room Tip: the room with the separate sitting room is excellent

Right in the centre of old Lincoln by Steep Hill. Perfectly placed for wandering round this lovely area. Lovely rooms with beams and uneven steps. We could see the cathedral from our room. Friendly and helpful owner who cooked a lovely breakfast in the morning. Has a car park which is a must in this area. Some lovely restaurants, pubs and shops close by. Sits between the cathedral and the castle. Will stay here again

This is one of the best, if not the best, guest house/hotel I have yet stayed in (due to my work, I stay in many hotels all over the country and the world). The location is excellent; the rooms are excellent; the breakfast is excellent; and the staff are friendly and warm. I would certainly recommend Cathedral View Guest House to anyone - it offers far better value for money than the usual hotel chains, with much nicer rooms and a brilliant location (at the top of Lincoln's historical Steep Hill with the Castle and Cathedral about 1 minute's walk away). I have nothing negative to say and I hope to return very soon!

A delightful guest house in a great location in the heart of the old town, surrounded by great restaurants and of course the Cathedral. Our room and the breakfast room were decorated to a high level, the owners have turned an old historic building into a charming and comfortable stay for their guests. The host was very welcoming and very helpful suggesting local attractions and restaurants. Would highly recommend to others.
