Owner description: The RAF Scampton Heritage Centre is housed inside the Annexe offices of the former 617 Sqn Hangar which is an English Heritage Grade II listed building. After a period of extensive renovation work carried out by volunteers, the Heritage Centre re-opened in June 2012. There is now the opportunity to see Wg Cdr Guy Gibsons office as it would have looked like in 1943.The Heritage Centre is open to the public by appointment only. Visits can be booked through the Head Curator Mr Roger Crisp. We can accommodate small and large groups, coach tours are very welcome as well as school trips.

“A privilege to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Wonderful museum of the Dam Busters 617 Squadron and home of The Red Arrows. Hearing about the courage of the squadron and the daring raid where so many lost their lives was a humbling experience. The reconstruction of Wing Commander Guy Gibson's (played by Richard Todd in The Dam Busters film) office overlooking his dog's grave, is not only authentic but surprisingly eerie. You expect his ghost to walk in at any moment and grab his coat and his dog's lead from the coat stand. You need to book this in advance and take ID with you because this is a working base. Our guide, Tom was an ex engineer at the base and was a font of knowledge. We recommend that you don't miss this. It was a very moving and interesting experience. Thank you for preserving this piece of history.

“Worth the phone call to Book a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

On a recent trip to Lincoln I decided at the last minute on a Friday morning to phone up and book a visit to the Museum. Our guide (Merv) said he would meet us at the gatehouse at 11.00am so off we went. I've seen most of the other aviation attractions in Lincoln so it was a chance to visit the legendary home base of not only the worlds best aerobatic team but also the home of the famous 617 Dambusters squadron during the war. I visited with my son who is in the ATC and is already has an interest in the subject. Our guide was brilliant, very knowledgable and busted a few myths portrayed in the Dambusters movie. Merv'senthusiasm was infectious. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. It's not a fantastic exhibition of memorabilia but it's well worth a visit for anybody interested in aviation and history. The tour and museum is free so please help support it by buying something from the gift shop or making a donation. The free coffee at the end of the tour was very welcome ;)

From the Website:

To celebrate the history of Scampton, we have created a station museum, it's housed in one of the original WW2 hangers and contains over 400 artifacts (including a Blue Steel Missile) which will be of interest to all aviation enthusiasts around the world. Entry to the museum is free to the general public. All we ask is that you contact the curator prior to your visit as the museum is not permanently manned and due to current security measures access to the station is not possible without prior arrangement.
