“Good location”

Holiday Inn - Lincoln

Nov 25, 2006

The Courtyard Hotel is in a good location overlooking the Brayford Harbour and University. The hotel has a small lobby with friendly reception staff. We had a King size room which was adequate. No frills but it was clean and everything worked. We only sampled the restaurant/bar area at the buffet breakfast which has a reasonably good selection. We were attending the University for a conference and had an overnight stay at the hotel which was adequate but not what you would choose for a romantic break. We ate in the Cathedral area and can recommend The Jews Place or The Wig and Mitre- both up the steep hill!!.

If you book in advance and you get a good rate, then this hotel is for. The location for the down town bars and the theatre are excellant. But make no mistake this is a rather drabe hotel with less than average food. The staff are mainly uni students who dont really care. Piped music and under cooked breakfast in the morning and dreadful bar at night. Lincoln is a great city, but stay in the uphill areas, as at night, this is chav ville

“Good Business Stay”

Holiday Inn - Lincoln

Aug 15, 2006

I stayed here for 3 nights in July on business. It was scorching hot outside but I'm pleased to say that the air conditioning worked a treat.

The service was good though the directions I received over the phone were not good and I took the long way. Not to worry, Lincoln is a pretty town and there are plenty of nice views. Otherwise, the staff were friendly and competently organised some dry cleaning, taxis on command etc.

Breakfast was good too. A nice buffet with some non-fatty food too which was nice and was included in the price of the breakfast.

The room was good although based on their photos I was expecting a nice desk to work from. Instead I got a small round table which was ok but a little bit cramped. The beds were excellent though as was the view over the river. The bathroom was also a highlight. It was big, roomy, modern and the shower was on the money. The decor in the room was a little tired but that was to be expected. I probably wouldn't pay the 100 pounds a night that I did pay if it wasn't paid for by work. Also the air force boys made a bit of noise until around 1am but the walls blocked most of it out and I was working late anyway so it didn't bother me. Things like that might bother others though if you are a sensitive sleeper. I think that the place is above average in terms of the quality of the hotel but only average in terms of value for money. Hard not to like the city itself though.

I took plenty of photos too so you can see what you are in for.

totally agree with the previous review; wish I had read it first as we had a waterfront view and it was very noisy between 2.00 and 3.00 a.m. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone going to Lincoln. Try The Barge restaurant, at the front of hotel, for a meal, it`s wonderful.
