Owner description: Bradgate Park was first enclosed as a deer park (for hunting) in the 12th Century. Herds of Red and Fallow Deer still roam freely across the Park's 800 acres today. The Park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its importance as a wildlife habitat and its geological interest - the 600 million year old Precambrian rocks here are some of the oldest in England. Bradgate House, built around the year 1500, was one of the first unfortified, brick-built country houses in the country and was the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey and played an important role in the English Civil War. Abandoned in the 18th Century, the house is now an evocative ruin set in a landscape that has changed little since the house's heyday. Bradgate offers visitors the chance to experience surprisingly wild and unspoilt countryside within a short travelling time of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby and is only 10 minutes from the M1 (J21 or 22). Explore the story of the Park in our Visitor Centre, stop for a cup of tea or lunch in one of our two tearooms or just bring a picnic and sit by the river. Bradgate Park was Runner-Up in the category of Large Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Leicester & Leicestershire Excellence in Tourism Awards 2013 and we are proud to be listed in the Top 10 Parks in the UK in the 2014 TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards. We stage a variety of events throughout the year including guided walks to explore the Park's history and landscape, wildlife events such as stream dipping, moth trapping and fungi forays, seasonal fairs focussing on local produce and traditional crafts and outdeor theatre performances in the ruins of Bradgate House. Keep an eye on our website or pick up a leaflet from the tearooms to keep up to date with what's on.

“Truly Nature Wonder Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We got up early, had breakfast & rushed to the park as vast as an estate past by rolling wheat fields & grazing sheeps. Better eat up somewhere coz if you are hungry while watching the deers & peasants around the oak, maples & birches overlooking the famous Sherwood forest in the far north towards Nottingham to pay homage to Robin Hood & friends; you may have to walk miles to find any cafes to laze around. l'm into knights & armour, very English by the way; so l had so much fun frolicking around the old ruins of Lady Jane Grey's home that stood the test of time, desperately. She was the queen of England for merely 9 days before executed for treason or something. The ferns & nettles are swaying too, so if you are into nature like me, what better eyes to feast unto the greens all around you & smell the fresh air mingled with hints of wood. Sheeps looked like small dots moving in the horizon as far as the eyes can go coz this park is within great vast of farmland in the midlands. If you are here in late autumn, you can see some great harvest too. Very apt to have a picnic with kids but, l'm not sure if it is allowed. You can ask the rangers first by calling the park. l simply loved my nature, adventure walk with my pal, Aimee in the wood hoping to be hunters... haha...

“Go on a weekday!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Bradgate park on the weekend is not a very nice place as EVERYONE is there. Go on a weekday to escape the crowds, but do still look out for crazy cyclists.
Saying that, the park itself is very nice and there is lots to look at, especially the ruins and the deer. The cafe in the old deer stable is a welcoming break in the cold weather at winter.

“Refreshing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Always a pleasure to walk around Bradgate, with or without pets or family!! Plenty of apce to roam either by road or over the ups and downs. Plenty of photo opportunities if you are a keen photographer too, especially watch out for the various wildlife. Take tea at the halfway mark or go to Newtown Linford for refreshments.

“Beautiful Country Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Good for walking, scenery and just to get away from it all for a bit. Great for fishing in the river with nets when the children where young and to have a picnic. Also good on a quieter day to teach young kids to ride as there is a flat path from one end to the other. Good for hide and seek with the kids if you go off and explore.
