The Good

This hotel is conveniently located for the city centre and the train station. It is a 5 minute cab ride from the station and about a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The staff were polite without being overly helpful. The room was reasonabley priced at £49 a night. We stayed here for one night over the weekend whilst attending the wedding of a friend.

The Bad

We arrived 2 hours before check-in and we needed somewhere to get changed we were told to get changed in the washroom. It would have been nice if the staff had allowed us use one of the rooms to get changed instead. Perhaps they were all in use!

Having some time to kill before going to the wedding and with no room to go to we decided to wait in the foyer/bar area. We ordered a meal that took 45 mins to arrive. Also the bar seemed to be being used by people who were not guests of the hotel and who sat and ate their own food and drink despite signs saying not to do so. They also seemed to object to our presence, making snide comments through our meal and throwing disapproving glances in our direction.

The room was spacious and at first glance seemed to be well kept however there were problems (see the ugly).

THE UGLY

The bathroom was a Scandinavian style wet room - no problem with that as a rule however because the shower was not self contained the water went everywhere. Again this would not generally be a problem but the water had spread on to the carpet out side the bathroom creating a damp patch outside the door. A nice surprise when I went to the loo in the middle of the night!

Worse than this was the shower itself, although still functioning there was damaged to the pipes at the top of the shower and the plasterboard above the shower was rotten showing signs of mold (see photo). Also the attachment that keeps the showerhead fixed and allows you to adjust the height of the shower was also broken.

Other minor niggles include - despite the large room size the bed was quite small and the room temperature was very hot with no obvious way of turning it down. We had to open a window, not ideal when the room overlooks a busy main road.

IN SUMMARY

This is a mediocre business hotel of the "Lintern Travel Tavern" variety, convenient location, probably okay for an overnighter but you wouldn't want to stay there for any length of time. We will not be returning.

  • Liked — close to train station town centre
  • Disliked — the shower, unwelcome guests in the hotel

This hotel was a bargin, however when we arrived we knew why. There were groups of kids hanging around and later the taxi driver told us that it was not the best side of Leicester.
Having said that the hotel itself was fine. The heating in our room was not working and we were moved straight away. The staff were very helpful and booked us a taxi for the evening.
We were a little worried about the car but the car park is locked at night so very secure.
Next day we walked into the city and it was really close.
We would stay again.
