An excellent morning or afternoon out, it only takes a couple of hours to see the whole thing so if you want to make a day of it, it is best to have a look around the main street in town (very close by) which is worth looking at.
The audio tour drove me crazy at first! but im glad i persevered with it as it was really informative and helped to set the scene.
The castle does have a small gift shop which sells ice cream etc but no cafe so if your planning lunch here, best walk into town
If you get chance to see an open air production here it is definitly worth going, we saw Pride and Prejudice and it was magical
