Good grief... What to say!
We are regulars at Cafe Rouge. Or rather had been until last year when our visit was far from satisfactory. Cold food, undercooked food, smaller portion sizes.
Decided to avoid it and return to le bistro Pierre. Much better overall.
Fancying a change we decided to give cafe rouge another go. Big mistake! Marcus the waiter who served us practically ruined our night. Well that and the awful live jazz duo that were playing!
Being attentive to customers is good of course. But most people realise less is more and that if a couple are there it is with a desire to chat to each other not the waiter.
His manner is patronising to say the least. Advising us often on " what he does"'. First piece of advice, when giving the menu .. I'd suggest sharing a starter and having a main each abs a desert each? WHAT? Didn't need nor ask for advice on something so basic. He constantly hovered around way too long making unnecessary comments about his own experiences. I like this food I like this wine etc. This might be useful if needed or asked for but he had no ability to pick up on the signals that. You asked how our meal was we said fine and were not engaging with his chit chat yet every single course it happened.
We forewent a dessert just to avoid more of this and the awful jazz that was in no way French related.
It's food cafe rouge are finally doing vouchers that can be used on a Friday but personally it could be free and we would not return.
Very bizarre. Never experienced anything like it. Be back to Le Bistro Pierre where service and food are both of much higher quality and you are left in peace to enjoy your meal.
The management team really need to send a mystery diner in here to experience this first hand. We were not the only diners to comment on this.
