“Such a lovely surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

I stayed here, on my own, during a business trip. I arrived exhausted, and simply stayed in my room for the evening. The room was delightful, with enough lights to make the beautifully decorated room both atmospheric, but bright enough to read. Comfortable chairs to sit on, lovely bed. Clean. I ordered room service - although the menu for main courses read as though it was a time warp from the 1980s, and didn't really tempt me at all, the food was delicious, served well. Breakfast was OK - nothing to write home about, but served quickly, warm, and with a smile. Located on a gem of a street in Leicester, which I didn't realise existed, and has increased my liking of Leicester by heaps. Lovely staff, friendly, helpful. I will definitely stay again if I need to visit Leicester again - a very little more expensive than the cheapest in the town centre, and well worth it.

Just had the most glorious weekend. We booked the spa package which includes a one night stay, a beauty treatment in the city centre, three course dinner and breakfast! Amazing value for money, excellent food and service. We could not fault it!

stayed for 1 night to watch football at King Power stadium. Easy, free parking behind hotel. Had executive room @ £89 with full English breakfast for £5 each. Room large and comfortable, overlooking New Walk so no cars. Lovely walk into town centre, via some local hostelries. Breakfast plentiful and tasty. free water in room which is great for me as I don't drink tea or coffee. It would have got 5/5 but some of the décor needs a bit of an upgrade.

Stayed overnight for a concert at De Montfort Hall as it's conveniently located around the corner and handy for pubs and restaurants. Free parking too. The bar and downstairs rooms are modern but the bedrooms whilst clean and spacious are quite dated. Breakfast was good and at £5per person when booked in advance was great value. Restaurant and Service very good too. Not the cheapest option compared to the Ibis but depends what you want.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues I would ask for a room near lift as it's quite narrow and quirky lay...

Stayed for one night in December for a business meeting at the University. Very handy for city centre and the University. Perhaps getting slightly faded round the edges, especially in the corridors and communal areas, but room was comfortable and well equipped. Staff were generally courteous and attentive. As I was checking out, someone was complaining loudly about their room and demanding a refund, but the desk staff dealt with it well.

Me and my wife stayed here for 2 nights for my birthday after looking on the website and reading good reviews. The hotel is easy to find and parking is plentiful. Check in was smooth and quick and staff seemed attentive and polite. We booked a executive room and it was very clean and spacious. Bathroom was lovely and shower too. We stayed in room 209 and we could hear a lot of people early morning outside but that didn't bother us much. Also no full length mirror? Surely that's a must for all hotel rooms? Breakfast was nice however the first morning my mushrooms had been deep fried which is a bit cheeky considering it costs £12.50. All in all a nice hotel that we would definitely consider returning too

Dear William
Many thanks for taking the time to write a review of your stay, the team and I are really pleased you enjoyed room 209, with a pretty view of New Walk. The full length mirror is on the inside of the wardrobe door as I recll, but I will go and check this today - as you say there certainly should be one in the room. I will also talk with my breakfast chef ref your comments about the mushrooms, although hopefully the plentiful spread of yogurts, pastries, juices etc helped make up for them. Thank you for sharing your feedback and for the 5* score!

Stayed here for one night when attending a business event at the King Power stadium in Leicester. A warm and courteous welcome at reception and a pleasantly furnished room.

This feels like a fairly old hotel - the floors and stairs creak - but it gives it a lovely character compared to so many of the large hotel chains around the country. The decor was bright and sound and the facilities were very good.

Surprisingly quiet considering its only about 500 metres from the station and 'the Walk' is a delightful pedestrian route that goes past the hotel and takes you pretty much straight into the city centre in about 15 minutes or less, avoiding the traffic of the main roads.

A substantial and nicely presented varied breakfast.

I would stay here again.

Dear Alan
Thanks so much for your review, and yes it is an old hotel. The property was built in the 1860s and was a girls school and then a YMCA before being bought by Rachel Bowie and opened as a hotel in 1934. The same family this year are celebrating their 80th anniversary! I agree the New Walk is a very special feature fo the hotel and the city, and is regularly commented on by our guests. I'm really pleased you recieved a curteous welcome, and the team and I look forward to welcoming you back in future.
