“Friendly staff but we'll try somewhere else next time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

The Belmont Hotel was a convenient place to stay overnight. The B&B deal was not the cheapest option in the city and our room was definitely not what we had been looking forward to after a system mix-up meant that we ended up double-booked and were moved at short notice to a small double room, which was clean and okay for such a short stay. We would definitely not stay longer than one night in such a small room however and although we were told that it was a refurbished room we wondered if it was regularly used or if we ended up in it only because of the booking system error. Certainly the room number was not on the signage directing guests to the rooms!
We've rated the Belmont average rather than poor mainly due to the staff being helpful and friendly. In the room there was the usual hairdryer-in-the-desk-drawer but it was close to a mirror (not always the case!) and the bathroom mirror was great for putting on make-up. Nice toiletries were provided. The bed was incredibly soft and there were more cushions and pillows than we needed - why are hotels so obsessed with cushions?
We didn't take any meals other than breakfast in the hotel but it was good with plenty to choose from, including the traditional cooked favourites.
The other reason we rated the Belmont Hotel as average and not poor is because of the location - very close to the train station and city centre restaurants but off the main road so quite quiet.
Overall, this is an okay place to stay as long as the visit is a short one. We probably won't try it again though.

Dear guest
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review of your stay. I'm sorry for the confusion with your booking, this summer we had a catastrophic failure when trying to update our front office booking system and we are still suffering with missing data.
Thank you for your complements about the team, bed and breakfast and about our location within the city. I'm sorry you wouldn't give us another try, as a 150 year old building we do have a broad range of room shapes and sizes, so if you change your mind please give us a call and we'll do our best to find something that best suits your requirements.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.

Living in Leicester its not often you get the chance to stay at a hotel in the city where you live.
I stayed just one night having attended a wedding at the hotel.
The room was scrupulously clean and spacious. The bed was soft and so comfortable. The shower powerful and hot. The breakfast next morning consisting of a full English or fruit, cereal and croissants if so desired was delicious. The service was attentive and efficient.
Everything relating to the wedding arrangements was faultless. Yes I am a fan and would advise the hotel as a super wedding venue and as somewhere really impressive to stay.

Room Tip: The location of the hotel situated on one side with a road which is not a major road and therefore n...

We stayed in the Belmont for a wedding & from start to finish everything was really good, we arrived early the day before & although rooms were not ready the staff were very helpful. We walked the 10 minutes into town (max 10 mins) & found the location to be good for town & plenty of places to eat at night, we chose a bad curry house! Everything about the wedding the next day from food to service was excellent.

Extremely high quality room. The Belmont is in a very good location on New Walk from where you can easily walk into the city centre. Breakfast was also especially good as were all the staff. Looking forward to our next visit. If staying in central Leicester I wouldn't choose any other hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the refurbished rooms.

My husband and I stayed one night as I was taking an exam at the university. The location was perfect - 10 minutes walk from the uni, in a beautiful leafy part of Leicester, near De Montfort Hall. The service from all staff was fantastic, especially the bar man in Jamie's Bar where we had a great Friday night fish and chips. The restaurant looked very good, beautiful looking food. The breakfast was great and plenty of it. Our room was good, nice furnishings, clean. The bathroom was small but adequate. The price was very reasonable and I will definitely be staying here when I go back in April next year.
Little bit of noise at night from passers by on West walk but not the fault of the Belmont.

I took my girlfriend to this hotel recently as a surprise for her birthday! We both were really impressed by the service we had and the staff were very experienced and happy to help. We took the double room and found it was massive! Massive bed (although it was 2 singles put together), flat screen tv with freeview, closet, nice bathroom (inc. bath). The restaurant which is connected to hotel was amazing! Gorgeous food, romantic, amazing service and good atmosphere. Really recommend this hotel for a quiet, relaxed and luxurious stay!

The hotel is situated on New Walk which is a very pleasant leafy walkway going from the Centre of Leicester to Victoria Park. It is close to the Railway Station and has a number of restaurants close by. The hotel itself is charming with lots of character and varied rooms.
Service on the whole is friendly but can be inefficient. Problems encountered in my half a dozen stays:
- Reservations booked but not honoured, I was also checked out in error
- Stressed reception staff being rather curt to the point of rudeness
- My room being left open all day on one occasion by service staff
Food quality at breakfast is excellent (except the porridge) and no buffet system which is refreshing. It can be slow but I am happy to put up with this as the food is so much better than the ghastly fayre at the Holiday Inn down the road. for evening I find the restaurant expensive with a limited menu and so have not tried it. The bar menu is OK but beware of semi-raw hamburgers which I had served to me on two separate occasions. After complaining I still received no satisfaction from the chef who arrogantly maintained that due to high quality ingredients he could not cook it any more. Note to pretentious chefs: you are there to cook the food as the customer wishes it to be cooked!

Dear guest
Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback of your stays with us, and for choosing us over the Holiday Inn! I spoke in detail about your meals in the bar, who again apologised and mentioned that he had offered to cook you any other dish on the menu as he feared you would be dissapointed by another burger as the result would have been the same (Yes sadly due to high quality ingredients). Thank you for your complements about the charm and character of the hotel and about our great location within the city. I have already spoken directly with my reception team regarding keeping their composure at all times.
We will endeavour to keep improving, and I thank you again for sharing your experience of the Belmont
