My wife and I don't eat out an awful lot with the pressures of work and family commitments so when we do we tend to try different places. This can be a bit of a gamble because we have had some really bad meals and unpleasant surprises. The Windmill Inn however was not one of them.
We booked and arrived on time and were met by a friendly member of staff who showed us to our table. Drinks were offered and brought quickly to our table. We chose our meals from the boards our order was taken and starters were brought out in reasonable time. Unfortunately I discovered a hair in my meal. Although slightly off putting when I mentioned this to a member of staff my meal was whisked away instantly apologies were offered and a fresh starter was prepared and brought.
Sometimes the way in which a problem is handled can be a problem in itself but the professional way in which this was done, without fuss and over exuberance was impressive. We were offered complimentary drinks which we declined as we thought enough had been done to solve the problem.
The main courses came which we thought were amazing. The sauces in particular were outstanding and the veg was beautifully prepared and cooked.
After a good sized starter and main course we were to full for sweet.
Oh and when the bill came we were pleasantly surprised that we had not been charged for the offending starter although a fresh one had been brought which I had thoroughly enjoyed.
What would I do to improve. Well if I was to be really fussy there was a musty unpleasant smell in the back corridor entrance from the car park. Not the best way to welcome customers.
Would we go back yes definitely and would recommend.
