“excellent birthday break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2009

10 of us stayed for 2 nights rooms a couple were on the small side however we did not spend alot of time in them, they could be rather hot but staff explained that it was due to the hot water pipes running under the floor which they were unable to do anything about advantage to this was that we were never short of hot water which can be an issue in some hotels - food was excellent, plently of choice and we highly recommend the lamb clear plates all round - staff very friendly and certainly made an effort for my birthday dinner - pool was lovely and relaxing for the adults, kids swam separate from us and no complaints from them - parking is a problem but arrive early and you'll bag a space, left car parked up for the two days and travelled by tram/walked when required nice and handy for the town but far enough out of the loud bars/clubs - will certainly re-visit
Age group included ages 52 to 15 years - all had a fantastic trip

We went to this hotel because it had a swimming pool for our children and it looked modern and very clean in which we wanted, we were on a break so expected a little luxury? I wish we had of booked with a travelodge it was so disappointing. Old fashioned is no way to explain the place it is totally stuck in a time warp and it's not good. You know when you get off an airplane in a foreign country and a bit shell shocked at first till you have a good look around, then it wears in and you realize it's a foreign country and it's not bad, well we felt that way with Blackpool and the feeling didn't go away. When I was a child (and I am only 25) it was fine, but I don't think they have actually done anything to the place since I was a child, the whole place is falling to bits, I literally cried. And i was going to book into the pontins there and we went past and it looked like something from the slums of Beirut, the place is filthy and falling down, honestly either that or we are spoiled up here in the North East and the once criticized Newcastle and surrounding areas are fantastic. We should have saved a few hundred quid on wasted hotel fuel and 1 meal on going to south shields as Blackpool isn't a patch on our coastal areas, zoo or not. Maybe if the hotel had of been livable we would have stayed in Blackpool but even my 4 year old child did not want to stay in the dreary depressing state of a room we had. we had to go down tiny corridors to get to our room, god knows what would have happened in a fire. The bathroom was foul, the plywood boards on the bath were actually falling off. And don't expect to get parked outside of the hotel as cars were blocked in and god knows how long you would have to wait if you wanted moved. The other car park was two streets behind thats if you wanted to leave your car in the area over night, we didn't! The pictures on net are totally deceiving you would think choice hotels are a classy establishment, they are not. And we were greeted by heavy smokers blowing in our faces every time we went in and out of the hotel doors. In fact the place reminded me of a dodgy workmen s club in the eighty's, I'm far from stuck up and the chatsworth from shameless would have been a better option. I wouldn't go there to be paid the price I paid a night!

Having read some of the negative reviews on TripAdvisor I'm not sure whether we are staying in the same place. The Claremont is an excellent hotel. The food is exceptional and we found that dietary needs were dealt with well. The room was very spacious however it could get extremely warm in the night.

The Swimming Pool is very clean and is a great place to visit in the Hotel however it is hidden and unless you know where it is then you may miss it. - The staff are fairly helpful also.

Well worth the Money

My husband and I have stayed at the Claremont on a few occasions and each time we have said we won't go back due to the lager being undrinkable.
The bar manager has to hit the rim of the glass with a bottle to get a head on it, even the comedians take the micky out of the beer because it is so flat.
We have always found the staff to be really nice but we have decided enough is enough
and now we will take our custom elsewhere

I stayed there for six nights with wife and two children aged 3 and 6. The room was of an average standard but faced the middle of the hotel so there was no view, it was also very hot. the towels were changed daily.
Breakfast was good but only had one fresh fruit on offer daily. The evening meal was of a fair to good standard if a little samey and had three courses. The options were one of two meat dishes, one fish or one vegetarian. The waiters and waitresses worked very hard. For the price paid you could not grumble.
Entertainment for kids was ok, although they were ready for bed by 9pm. i stayed up and watched a couple of comedians which were very good.
The main entertainment room smelt a bit fausty. Bar prices were very good, I did wake up with a sore head a couple of mornings.
The gym is small and very hot although all you need on a little break and the pool is great for the kids on those wet days in Blackpool.
Parking a nightmare although I did get a space in the rear carpark and left the car there for six days. Dont leave any valuables on display, the area behind the hotel does look a bit run down and you get a few winos hanging on the seafront near the Metropole just down the road.
Apart from that not a bad hotel, but could do with a little money spent on upgrading. If you get a sea view would be that little better.

Stayed there on Saturday evening, booked through last minute .com.
After checking in i asked about parking to be informed by a rude receptionist if you cant park at the front you will have to find somewere else to park on the street!. After 45 mins finding alternative parking (on a street about 1/2 mile away), we finanlly got our keys and went to the room. It was spacious although very dated with damp patches on the ceiling. Bedding was clean although i really did expect better, after my partner talking me into staying, i can honestly say i expected better. Beware also the late night disco that blares music out till the early hours, luckiy we were only there for one night. I thought the last chance for it to shine would be the full "lancashire" english breakfast.........it was awful, and i left it all, the staff in there were rude and very unproffesional......it seemed if you didnt tip you were ignored!!!! certainly wont be returning. I expected this from a cheap B&B £15 a night but certainly not from an establishment like this.

we got a really good deal, £74 pppn for dbb. the food was very good, breakfast in particular.
entertainment was fun, bingo, singer/comedian each night. bar prices reasonable.
room had a sea view but was quite small.

overall for a "blackpool" hotel this was really good, and a we will definately be returing here.
