Returned to this hotel in April and hadn't been for 4 years or so.
Firstly, the Viking Hotel is dated and grubby. Our room had a bathroom with no shower, had dirty grouting, and a worn out grubby bath. The filth in the sink overflow made me heave when I was brushing my teeth ( I saw the thick, black smelly gunge in overflow when I bent over the sink) the only decent part of the bathroom was that the towels were clean. Asked at reception where the shower was and was told I didn't request one when I booked. What century does this hotel exist in when a receptionist tells you to book a shower or to wash your hair with a plastic cup which is for use when cleaning your teeth.
Our room had clean bedding and that’s where it ends. The beds have not been moved for months maybe years – you can see the dirt under them when you enter the room as well as the edges of the room which have never seen a vacuum cleaner. The bed and pillows are very lumpy. One of the curtains was partly hung at the window due to missing hooks, and the linings were full of moth holes and window sill filthy. The ceiling was like a patchwork quilt with repairs.
I really cannot understand where these raving reviews for this hotel come from, the food was worse than school dinners, restaurant service extremely poor ( 2 hours to get a meal). The only saviour was the entertainment room, the entertainment was good, but don't expect to get the seat reception reserve for you, because on both evening WE HAD NO SEAT!!!!
Now the Manager, if that's what you can call him needs to go on a training course, he obviously does not like anyone complaining, we went to see him when we were leaving (he was not available at any other time) and his attitude stunk, he spoke to me as if I was a child, told me I was aggressive (which I wasn't - I was complaining) so would not listen and told me to write to him. I wish we hadn't paid before we left as I felt we'd been robbed. We had an awful weekend and would never step foot in this hovel again. you can get value for money in Blackpool, but not at Choice hotels.
Have stayed in the Claremont and the Viking many times over the last 20 years, and they were good value but not for 2013, Please save your money and go elsewhere
