“Warm Friendly Family Hotel the place to stay in Blackpool”

My hubby and I and our 5 year old son stayed at this hotel 31st July until the 4th August
What a lovely friendly family hotel the room was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean with the tea/coffee topped up regulary, The breakfast was amazing with so much choice good portions and well presented
One of the many things we liked about this hotel was the fact that the bar closed at 11pm which ment we could get our son off too bed without any noise as this hotel caters for couples and families we didnt want to stay at a place that had gangs of girls or lads coming in drunk.
Our landlady April was so helpful and the staff even took a shine to our son cutting his toast into solders for him!!
A 5 star hotel that we recommend to any family to stay out not your usual low rate B&B but a well ran hotel
we have booked again for later in the year for the lights and cant wait
Thanks April & Kent for a wonderful time see you all in October

This is the second time we've stayed in this hotel and we've already provisionally booked for next year!
Very friendly and approachable staff, and lovely dog!
Parking facilities excellent, and it's nice that hotel only caters for couples and families (no stag/hen parties!).
Highly recommended.

The Avenue is a small family run hotel in a quiet location in central Blackpool, just walking distance from the seafront. Despite having a three star rating I would say this is definitely more like a four star. My husband and I stayed at this hotel over the Easter break and despite what another reviewer has said, we were made “Most Welcome”. We stayed in a superior room which was spotless and had lovely contemporary décor. We found the owners exceptionally accommodating, friendly and helpful from the initial telephone contact to throughout our stay. We had free on-site parking, excellent grub, and a lovely room. It's a quiet hotel that doesn't cater for stags/hens single parties, so no getting woken up in the middle of the night! I would recommend The Avenue to any couples or families – you won’t be disappointed it’s excellent value for money!

I made an enquiry to this hotel asking for availability and rates and was told none. I further enquired as to findout if no dates were available at all and was essentially toldI was not welcome because they do not accomodate solo travellers.

When I replied saying that was unfortunate and what I thought was odd - I got a response threatening legal advice being sought and that my directors would be informed.

My experience in trying to book for 3 weeks in this hotel was awful and definately lacking any customer service whatsoever which is a pity because the rooms looked quite good.

Not recommended for solo or business. If required I can supply email trail on the enquiry.

Much to my surprise and disappointment I have discovered the above review on Trip Advisor. The single Gentleman involved has done what most derogatory reviewers do, that is, tell half a story. As he did not actually stay with us he is not qualified to give ratings on various aspects of my hotel which could only properly be judged by an overnight guest. The simple fact is that we have a strict policy of “couples and families only" and eighteen years of experience have taught us that single guests have different needs and lifestyles from the older family market. I am 60 years of age myself and have decided to cater for the quieter end of the market. My guests regularly tell me that the knowledge that they will be in amongst a quieter clientele has been a major factor in their choice of accommodation.

We responded very politely to the gentleman saying that we could not help him and suggesting a directory where he would be likely to find what he was looking for and thanking him for his interest.
For some unfathomable reason he persisted and demanded to know why we would not accept his booking.

He asked; so I told him.

That was still not good enough for him and he then said he would send an enquiry to the Tourist Board as he felt our policy was against their grading guidelines. He said he has been in Blackpool for six months having stayed in many hotels and had never found this policy before. He also said he would write a bad review on Trip Advisor.

It was only at that point that I informed him that if he left any review, anywhere, which was untruthful and affected my rating in a negative fashion, then I would take legal advice. I also said that I would copy the e-mail trail to his CEO unless our dialogue became more amicable. This is a "review" from a man, who is a commercial traveller/consultant, and who asked a "couples and families only" hotel for single accommodation and would not accept that he could not have it. I would stress that we have been scrupulously polite in all of the e-mails with him. He has offered to provide the e-mail trail but of course he remains anonymous so you can hardly ask him. Feel free to contact me if you would like to see the e-mails. I will gladly provide them. My booking policy is non negotiable and no amount of negative comment will change it. It is deeply regrettable that small, Visit Britain accredited guesthouses should have their reputations besmirched in this manifestly unfair way. There is little that I can do except leave it to the thousands of fair minded visitors to Blackpool to judge for themselves.

i stayed at the avenue hotel with my sister and it was fantastic. although the hotel has a policy of no one night stays in illuminations, i had to attend a court case of which i was a witness and they allowed us to stay on a one night basis. we arrived and headed straight to court, then to the hotel, we were greeted by april, lovely woman and all went smoothly, we had an excellent car parking space which meant we could come and go as we pleased. the room was excellent and so clean i defy anyone to find a fault with the rooms, in fact with anything in this hotel. the bathroom was clean and spacious and the next morning we were really treated by the breakfast menu. everything was set out , single packs of cerial, juice as much as you wanted, yoghurts, fruit and then the cooked breakfast, as we were both veggies april cooked us lovely beans on toast. we then noticed that the only people staying there were us and a couple. as it was mid week and not busy at all. and even though there were only four of us they still laid all the trimmings on. a fantastic hotel, and very good value for money
