“Missing you both already! :(”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

I don't know where to start, but what an amazing second stay at The Avenue!

After such a wonderful stay in July, we decided instantly that we wanted to go back and stay with Chris and Gordon again next year. Shortly after returning home, we knew we couldn't wait that long and booked two rooms for September (extra room was for my Mother-In-Law). We decided to stay for three nights so we could see the Fireworks competition and the Illuminations, but we added a fourth night, as we booked tickets to see Marc Almond at The Lowry Theatre in Salford.

On arrival we were greeted by Chris, who was as cheeky as ever! He showed us through to the lovely Lounge/Bar, where he made us fresh coffee and tea to enjoy whilst completing check-in. He asked what we would all like for breakfast, remembering that I had the Full English but no tomatoes, and that my vegetarian husband likes a cheese omelette. We continued to catch up for ages, during which time we were joined by Gordon. After a good chinwag and lots of laughter we went up to our rooms to make ourselves at home.

The rooms are spotless, nicely decorated and feel very homely. We stayed in room 4 which has the seating area in front of a nice big tv, which also has a dvd player and freeview. There is an en-suite with a lovely large walk-in shower, fresh towels available which are sooo soft!. Room 4 also has a trouser press and ironing board with iron and a storage room with safe and fridge plus wardrobe space. The room is light, airy and welcoming, making you feel like you are the first guests to stay there. My Mother-In-Law was in room 6, which we stayed in on our first visit. The room again was spotless and felt like it hadn't been used before.

Chris and Gordon really are the perfect hosts! They have become like family to us and that is with only two stays. They went out of their way to help us when my Mother-In-Law was feeling a bit poorly. She has not spent a night away from home for nearly 30 years and was very apprehensive about the trip, but after just a few minutes of talking with Chris and Gordon, she said she felt relaxed and comfortable and enjoyed every further minute of the stay.

Breakfast is served from 8:30 - 9:15am and in addition to whatever you have pre-selected there is also fresh juice, grapefruit segments, cereal, filter coffee and tea plus as much toast as you can eat!. The food is delicious and once everyone has been served, Chris and Gordon will join their guests whilst they eat their breakfast as well. During this time, they enjoy conversing with all the guests, which leads to some very funny times at the breakfast table!.

If you are stuck on what to do or where to go then Chris and Gordon have lots of ideas and recommendations on where is good and where to avoid like the plague!

We crammed a lot into our stay, but what really made the stay special was returning to the bar each evening and being joined by Chris and Gordon for a lot of laughs over a few drinks. We have so many fond memories to keep with us until we return. Speaking of which, during our stay, we booked up for July and September next year and because she enjoyed herself so much, my Mother-In-Law will be joining us on both trips. The only thing is, we already know that we are not going to be able to wait until July, so hopefully we will be booking another stay for early next year as well.

To summarise, fantastic hotel, amazing hosts and the most fun we have had in a long time and this is all thanks to Chris and Gordon, ooooo not forgetting Ruby and Roxy who are the most adorable little darlings and so friendly.

If you are ever going to go to Blackpool, The Avenue is the place to stay!

Room Tip: Room 4 has a really lovely walk-in shower, plus seating area with larger tv and a fridge.

well where to start?booking after my best friend recommending The Avenue to us,we arrived and Gordon made sure we was safely parked whilst chris was onlooking welcoming us to where for the next two nights we felt like we was a guest in there home not a guest in a guest house.Every little detail of making us feel like we was the only guests they had right down to offering drinks, cups of tea , light refreshments and they even asked us exactly what we would like on our breakfasts when we arrived so when we got up in the mornings we had the perfect breakfast possible.Chris (WHO IS ABSOLUTELY HILLARIOUS!)and gordon are so friendly and we will never book anywhere but The Avenue everytime we stay in Blackpool and will be telling everyone we know to book there too.Chris roll on the caberet evening we cannot wait!.The rooms were spotless, clean and fresh with lovely touches .I could go on all night about how great this hotel and its owners are but for the fear that Chris head wont fit through the door from all the biggin up hehe ,anyway dont just take our word for it you can see for yourselves get booking now because hotels like this with such warm and friendly owners DO not come along every day and i bet they will be fully booked week in week out very soon xxxxxxx love from nicola and dean mclennan xxxxx

Room Tip: beware chris and gordon and the stories they tell will have you in stitches lol x

Just returned from a four night stay at The Avenue, and I can honestly say this is the best guest house we have stayed in.The hosts Chris and Gordon made us feel at home from the moment we walked through the door. We were welcomed with a much appreciated pot of tea and biscuits before being shown to our room. The room itself was lovely, spotlessly clean and a good size, the beds were extremely comfortable with nice soft pillows, there was also a hairdryer, clock radio and tea and coffee making facilities.
The breakfasts were fantastic,my partner (a fussy eater to say the least) cleared her plate every morning when normally she can only just manage toast and cereals.
The guest house is in a good location 5 minutes from prom and town centre.
Although the weather was really bad the first 2 days we had a fantastic time, and would like to thank Gordon and Chris for being so friendly and helping to make our visit a memorable one.
Next time we visit Blackpool we will definately return.

We decided to spend our anniversary in Blackpool. After much online searching we chose 2 nights at The Avenue Guesthouse, on Reads Avenue. We travelled the 165 miles a bit dubious to what we'd find due to previous Blackpool experiences... all worries faded away when we were greeted by Gordon's friendly face offering us a cup of tea before we'd even parked-up :)

We couldn't have asked for more all weekend, gorgeous room, spotlessly clean, cosy & warm and a comfier bed than home. Great banter with Chris & Gordon in the mornings and the Breakfasts were a-ma-zing! well worth getting up for, I nearly had to be rolled back up to the room I was so full.

All in all you couldn't possibly ask for a more welcoming home from home guesthouse in the heart of Blackpool. GO GO GO!! what are you waiting for?

Since Chris and Gordon took over this guesthouse I have been several times and the reason being this is home from home. You get a really warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is really good. We had the evening meal which was very tasty, well cooked and great value for money. The rooms are so comfortable and clean. Best guesthouse in Blackpool and what a great central location. We will be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms I saw were good but for an extra special day ask for room 5 it is fantastic with its o...

We have just spent 2 nights at this guest house and we couldn't have had a better time. The room was immaculate and very comfortable and had everything you would need. The host's Chris and Gordan were 2 of the nicest people we have had the pleasure of meeting. It was just like home. We will be returning in the future and will recommend The Avenue to family and friends
