“Badly Needing Updated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Queens Hotel. The hotel is in real need of refurbishment. Bedroom in general was clean, although bathroom could have been a bit cleaner.Never experienced so many creaky floorboards before! Breakfast was ok and was delivered quickly by efficient staff. Hotel entertainment was very good, but overall it was not worth the money we paid.

Just back from a long weekend at the Queens hotel and to be honest not worth the £250 we paid. Check in was fast but then things went downhill from there. Lift was totally shabby a coat of varnish would improve it a bit. Creaky floorboards wherever you walked and room was really shabby, as for the toilet well it had to be seen to be believed. Roof tile was missing above bath and there was no shower only an attachment but nowhere to hang the attachment to. Bath panel was filthy and dust everywhere. We don't stay in posh hotels but give me a travelodge or premier inn any day. Breakfast was ok. Only saving grace about this hotel was the entertainment at night it was really good. All in all wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't!!!

The rooms are small and adequate but every single floorboard in the hotel squeaks and I do mean every one of them. Sleep was nigh on impossible as guests were comming in at different times. Breakfast was good but there was a long wait

Room Tip: Not sure there could be any due to floor boards

Certainly not worth the money,Basic tatty rooms and decor, very creaky floorboards in room, so felt uncomfortable walking round it,really in need of a revamp. Breakfast average. Although the staff were very nice.

Was not sure to expect after reading the mixed reviews, but found the hotel quite acceptable, although in need of some updating. We had a 3 bed room, which gave us plenty of space, as there were only two of us. The decor in the room is looking a bit dated, and the lack of bedside cabinets was disappointing. However, there was a jug kettle with tea & coffee provided (no hot chocolate though), as well as a hair dryer. The wall-mounted flat screen TV was able to pick up all the standard Freeview stations. The bathroom was fairly modern, although the floor tiles had seen better days. We also found the electric shower to be a bit underpowered, but the water hot enough.

Meals are all served by waiters, who were quick once they had taken your order. Breakfast included the usual cooked items, as well as cereals & fruit juice. The toast was often underdone or burnt, but otherwise everything else was perfectly OK. The evening menu was the usual meat or fish variety, with a vegetarian option. A welcome extra option was 'Lighter choices' ; basically a slightly smaller meal for children or anybody who preferred something else. This included sausage & chips, jacket potato with cheese & beans, ham & chips. We found that there it was possible to change some of the extras with the meals (e.g. no sauce on the cheesecake, onion instead of beans for the jacket potatoes). You can even request a second helping!

On the ground floor, there's a sun lounge, a small games room and an indoor pool with a small jacuzzi. The entertainment at this time of the year is mainly based at the over 60's; there's bingo, some 50's and 60's music acts plus the occasional quiz (which we won!). The hotel is well located on sea front, not far from the south pier, with the Talk of the Coast entertainment bar next door. Although not well advertised, there is free wi-fi available on the ground floor, covering the reception area through to the dining room.

All in all, not a bad hotel. Our coach driver advised us that refurbishments are planned, which should make the hotel well worth a second visit.
