“Very nice Hotel and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

After an unpleasant start due to another hotel, we were very kindly accomodated at the Chequers Plaza and were very pleased with our stay here. Very friendly staff especially Robert and Jay. Very clean and newly refurbished, large family room. Lovely buffet breakfast each morning. If they keep up these high standards then we shall certainly be return customers and wish them all the best.

This hotel was one of the best in which I have stayed, and I have stayed in thousands around the UK and Europe in my capacity as a coach/tour driver.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, Spacious with brilliant bathroom facilities.
The food was second to none. The new head chef is a lovely guy and a brilliant chef with alot of talent.
The food was hot and tasted absolutely gorgeous.
The breakfast was perfect and the staff..... well what can I say.
Helpful, and polite. Very obliging and very hard working.
This hotel is going to be one of the best in Blackpool without a doubt especially with the new management taking it under their wing and striving hard to be successful.
The success will alll be theirs.
Wonderful. Will definiatley return and recommend to friends.

We can not find Much fault with this newly dome hotel, clean bright and cheerful. The food is fantastic and the young head chef who I think is 21 will someday make it to the big time, we found him courteous polite passionate and humble. We have eaten in some top places as avid foodies and his food certainly measures up. Well done young man your food will put this hotel on the map. Ok foodie bit dealt with, the rest of the hotels clean and comfortable and staff very friendly and definitely worth a visit. Well done to you all. Management word to the wise you have a good team look after it.

We stayed at the hotel last weekend and found everything to be of a very good standard, staff were friendly and professional and the food was first class we have eaten at some of the countrys finest hotels and the chef here certainly measures up if not exceeds standards at some of the places we have stayed! Our only critique is that the dining room lighting made eating the fabulous food not as enjoyable as it should be, our thought is sort your lighting out chequers and do your chef justice. We forsee rosettes for this young chef!
The manager was very attentive but did seem under pressure to do 10 things at once, but he did take it in his stride and remained polite at all times.
The rooms were basic but comfortable, a few mod cons would not go amiss.
When in Blackpool again we will most certainly be booking back in at the chequers. I know it is under totally new management and they must be doing all the right things as after reading other reviews I would say give this hotel a chance.

Room Tip: Add an evening meal you will not be disappointed

First impressions were great, the room was spacious and clean. We stayed at the hotel as a family and on return from a long day out we decided to have a drink in the hotel bar as we were limited to where we could go with children.

The bar did not have any gas so we were unable to have any drinks involving coke, lemonade or larger. In fact the only choice of soft drink was a J2o. not a great mixer for vodka. We ended up walking to the local off license to get our own drinks to sit in the bar. There was no entertainment and no background music but they did put the tv on.

The next morning breakfast was served at 8.30 - 9.30 so we made an effort to get up and enjoy breakfast to find a note on the door that breakfast was delayed as they had no gas and they were trying to contact local hotels so we could eat there. However around 10.30 am they managed to cook some breakfast. The breakfast came out bit by bit. Bacon and hash browns, the rest was still cooking so we ate them then the sausages were cooked. It was a bit of a joke to be honest. No milk for the tea, no butter for toast we had to go to reception to ask for butter, milk, jam, and even plates !!! On check out they did not even apologise for the inconvenience, offer a part refund or wish us a safe journey. The excuses we kept hearing were we are under new management... they should have not taken bookings if they could not cater.

Stayed here this weekend and what can I say except excellent all round.
Rooms are bright and cheerful though not ultra not modern but all I think we need is comfortable clean surroundings, excellent location and views and the breakfast was fantastic, the new head chef cooks a mean start to the day. Could not fault our stay and I would most definately stay here again. value for money, great staff and great food!
