“Great hotel, pity about blatant overcharging”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2006

Fantastic hotel, fantastic experience, until our party came to pay.
Mysterious 'drinks' appeared on our bill - drinks which we had not had, and which the hotel could find no record of us having.

They insisted on charging us anyway. For that, and the fact that twice they tried to short change a group in the bar (including, unluckily for them, a non-drinker) the previous night, I would not stay there again.

No matter how nice a hotel the BIg Blue is, and it is a lovely hotel, dishonesty is dishonesty

just returned home, after staying at the big blue hotel, 2 adults & 2 children, ( 3days ) hotel was superb for the family, clean & tidy, staff friendly & very helpful, room was excellent, we booked a family room & that is what we got, not the usual extra beds stuck in the aduts room like many other hotels, kids loved it, breakfast was again excellent, if you are visiting blackpool with a family, book this hotel you won`t be dissapointed.

We have been going to Blackpool every October for many years and have stayed in the Big Blue for the past 2 years. We LOVE it. We have 4 children and so far have managed to stay in one room comfortably. Top Tips - always try to get on the top floor as you can get the noise from kids running about if you are on a lower floor. No prob on the top floor and always get a view over the pleasure beach (obviously!) You cant book this in advance but request it on arrival and they will do their best to accomodate your request. It's truly magic when the kids run into the room and the Big One is going right past your window. Its not noisy either - triple glazing I think. Its really clean and a fab brekky too. Easy parking in the hotel car park, its the absolute best place to stay.

My only slight gripe last time was that when its busy for breakfast you have to queue in the bar area in the presence of smokers and this is very unplesant for non smokers and unhealthy for the kids too. You can get great deals which include your wristbands and stay at the park all day with no worry about waiting for trams.

If you love the pleasure beach as much as we do, you MUST stay here.

  • Liked — closeness to pleasure beach
  • Disliked — queing fo beakfast in smokey atmosphere
  • Tips/Secrets — try to get a room on top floor

First and only time in Blackpool.........
Everything really has been said - it;s an excellent hotel, Officially 3 star but as good as many 4 stars I've been in here and abroad. Rooms excellent (executive double) view of pepsi max (it's blackpool!!). Leave your hairdryer at home - it's a real one! Lovely fireplace and flat screen telly with comfy chairs to sit in with view of pleasure beach. Food excellent - only decent food in Blackpool that we found. Staff very helpful - most not English so language a slight problem sometimes. Gym rubbish - a few machines in a tiny room - it would be an absolutely fantastic hotel if the leisure facilities were a bit better - a pool and decent gym etc.
Now Blackpool - enjoyed the pleasure beach and hot ice show. Blackpool in general - I have never in my life seen so many drunk people ( i like a couple of tipples) O)ne guy actually crawled into the pub on his hands and knees. You would not get into pubs in Scotland the mess these people were. Blackpool is dirty, trashy and the absolute pits of the earth. Food is disgusting - all fast food and chips with everything. Only clothes you need to take is a football top and shorts. Its horrible but if you like that kind of thing........ if you want a decent meal then stay in the Big Blue to eat then don your pink cowboy hat put on your white SMN's and hit the town!!

Had several excellent weekends at the Big Blue. Handy for the sand dunes and away from all the closing time noise!

The suites are a fabulous treat and the doubles facing the park have the bonus of watching the rides. Sound proofing is excellent. Habitat styling in the bedroom and state of the art bathrooms gives serious competition and wake up call to Blackpools hotels.

Having endured the queues and clamouring for their excellent breakfast we now do room only. The Big Blue has become a victim of its own success here.

HOW WE AVOIDED THE BREAKFAST BLUES -

On Saturday morning we barbecue on the sand dunes. On Sunday we sleep our hangovers off until the last minute to shower and check out, then we book into the SUPERB CARVERY for lunch and enjoy a great Sunday dinner in calmer setting than breakfast to set us up for the journey home.

TIP:-
Take an ice bucket with you for your champagne as there is an ice machine on the ground floor, failing that fill lots of little tubs of ice and put them in your sink.

  • Liked — state of the art decor and bathrooms and air conditioning - it's the only place to stay in Blackpool
  • Disliked — the bedlam at breakfast, hence room only and BBQ on beach Saturday and their carvery Sunday
  • Tips/Secrets — Take ice bucket for your champagne - ice machine on ground floor. skip breakfast and BBQ on the sand dunes - superb!

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in July with my 10 year old son. Having never been to Blackpool before, I was very dubious but we had a wonderful time and are already busy planning our next trip.
As a Tour Operator, I have stayed in many hotels and I can quite honestly say that this is one of the better hotels that I have stayed at in this country.
We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a Club Room which was wonderful. However, I nearly had a fit when we opened the windows & found that we were looking straight onto the Pleasure Beach with the rollercoaster tracks right in front of us. But I needn't have worried as the park didn't open until 11am & it closed at about 7pm so we were not bothered by any noise at all. The room was perfect - beautifully clean, quality furnishings & a very comfortable bed. We even had a flat screen TV & a DVD player (you can rent DVD's from reception). The Club Rooms have a small living area with two very comfortable chairs, a desk and a coffee table as well as a Juliet style balcony.
Despite reports to the contrary, we found all of the staff to be very pleasant & helpful. The breakfast is great and we had excellent service in the restaurant. If you do stay at the hotel, do try the restaurant in the evenings - it's fairly expensive but the food is great & it beats the usual burger or fish and chips that seem to be the staple diet in Blackpool.
All in all, I can highly recommend the Big Blue Hotel.

Rooms: The room were very clean, very spacious and very modern it had flat screen TV a DVD player and even a remote control Fire. The view was cool and unique as it overlooked the Pleasure Beach so be prepared to be woken up at ten and don’t expect an afternoon snooze.

Food & Drink: Breakfast was very good and in with the price a good selection of item and all you can eat buffet affair with the usual hot and cold selections. Room service was a bit slow but the drinks were still cold so not a problem there.

Staff: Very friendly and efficient no problems at all.

Location: Right next to the Pleasure Beach with all the amenities only a short walk away and the main nightlife a cheep taxi or tram ride away.

Overall: A great hotel far enough from the hustle and noise of the main Blackpool nightlife but still close enough to the rest of the resort. Will definitely be staying here again, worth every penny.
