Just back from a weekend in the Big Blue and would thoroughly recommend it.
We stayed in a Deluxe Double Room and it was well worth the supplement. We were at the front of the hotel and had a partial sea view. I know some people liked the Pleasure Beach view but the Big One really is just outside the window and I would imagine could be a novelty to start with but would quickly start to get on your nerves. We could hear the rumble of it when we were in our room on the other side of the hotel. The room is divided between a carpeted bed area and a laminate floor living area which had a modern electric fire which works and isn't just for decoration, two really comfortable soft chairs, two footstools and two tables. Just perfect for resting after a day's sightseeing.
Also loved the dimmer light switch which was a lovely touch.
The bed was really comfortable and the bed linen lovely and soft. Duvets instead of sheets which was so much more comfortable than the obligatory sheets which have a habit of wrapping themselves around you. Air conditioning in the room too which was really effective and worked quickly. Bathroom small but perfectly formed with a lovely set of toiletries, not the usual cheap and cheerful you find in most hotels.
Ample car parking (there is a back entrance to the hotel from the back of the car park - make sure you get an acceess code to get out of the car park before leaving the hotel), cash dispensing machine on the premises as well as vending machines with chocolates, sweets, crisps and drinks. Tram stop just across the road from the hotel.
Ordered room service the second night (home made fish cakes) which arrived really quickly and were absolutely gorgeous. Would also recommend the Steak and Ale Pie with hand cut chips but would have liked a few more of the hand cooked chips as they were delicious.
Staff were excellent, especially the Polish bar man who was working on the Saturday night (21 June). He was extremely pleasant and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Also the wifi access wasn't working but it was no trouble for the staff to let me into the Business Centre to use the Internet there.
My only complaints would be that while the breakfast was lovely, it was very chaotic as everyone was fighting for the buffet. Everything was self service, even the toast, tea and coffee.
Also on the Friday evening I would have liked a Sticky Toffee pudding with my Calypso coffee when we were in the bar, however they wouldn't serve it in the bar area, I would have had to go into the restaurant area. I couldn't understand this as it is all one big room with just a partition and especially as the next night there were people eating in the bar area. Anyway my loss was their financial loss too.
I also agree with another reviewer that it was a bit of a pain having to walk to the front end of the Pleasure Beach, especially as there is an entrance right beside the Hotel. It would have been a nice touch to have an entrance for Hotel guests as the walk round to the front entrance is along Ocean Boulevard which has a lot of empty/run down shop fronts.
The hotel was fantastic, it's just a shame it's in Blackpool which has got quite run down and has a seedy feel to it. However the hotel is in a nice area. Would recommend a trip to Garstang which sits on the Lancaster Canal. Very pretty and some lovely shops and restaurants. Stay away from Roccos Italian Restaurant in Clifton Street, Blackpool. Rude staff and overpriced food.
Would stay in the Big Blue again but as a base for touring rather than for Blackpool specifically.
